Hi...My ds is 9.5 months and I am beginning to wean him. I don't want to but I am going back to work part time and I have to as I can't pump at work...or at least...I won't pump at work...I think. Anyways, I began about a month ago with bedtime feeding and now I am taking away an afternoon feeding. Ds is taking it well! I'm not...I feel like I am depriving him of something. I know that I am lucky to be able to nurse him for this long as some of you go back to work after 6 weeks (I feel for you) but deep down I wish that he would just reject me so that I would have NO choice! He is bobbing off and on and it does take quite a while to get him to settle and nurse properly. Night feedings are great...although I don't know what I will do when he is fully weaned. He wakes up at 2 and at 5 to feed, but I am hoping that it will change soon. Anyways, I just need support right now and I know I am doing the right thing, as I will be working shift work and lots of nights (so I can't even keep bedtime/morning feeds). It's just so sad to make the decision for them. Also, I do have a question. How many bottles should he be getting throughout the day? I used to nurse him like 5-6 times a day...maybe decreased a little lately...do I keep it the same?? Thanks!

I work part-time and don't pump (hate it plus it's never worked well for me) and it's not a problem. When I'm at work, my husband sometimes gives my 8 mo old daughter formula, but since she's eating solids, she seems ok with just nursing when I'm around. Look up part-time nursing or reverse cycling on kellymom.com--they have lots of info on in-between options. Lots of moms I talk to keep bedtime nursing for a long time before weaning too. Maybe that would help? Good luck!

I'm at the exact point you are. My baby girl is 9 months and 1 week. She's also handling it very well. We just nurse twice a day now. I'm like you and not sure how many bottles to give her. I give her a jar of baby food 3 times a day and then offer the bottle right after to fill her up if needed. I also offer her a sippy cup of water or juice while she eats baby food. She nurses right when she wakes up in the morning (around 6:30 AM) and then again about 11:00 AM. Then she usually takes a 4 oz bottle right before bed at about 8:00 AM. She sleeps all night though so don't have to worry about that. I'm sad too. She's my last child and it's hard to let go. The only problem I'm having is she is so constipated from the formula and baby food. So we're trying to get that worked out too! Thank goodness kids are resiliant. It will all work out.....hang in there! You are not alone....

Thank you Ladies!! I will look up part time bfeeding! I am so sad my baby is growing up!! We just went away and it was the first time we formula fed all day and nursed at night and in the am...it went well and nursing in the day is now extinct... :-( but it was actually more frustrating for me as he wanted to look around at everything (even if no one was around) so I think that I am becoming ok with it...as long as the night/am feedings do go yet. Good luck to all...and thanks for the support...

I totally understand. The more my daughter eats solids the sadder I am just thinking about not nursing her anymore!
