do not wash with soap in the shower. as the soap can dry them out even more. express some colostrum or milk onto your nipples and let it air dry. this is the most natural and best way to help dry nipples. Also consult a pharmacist maybe. there are many creams you can buy at any drug store that help, ask what they reccommend. If you are experiencing sore/cracked nipples, chance are it is because your baby is not latching on correctly.it would be a good idea to contact a lactation consultant. Ask to speak with one at the hospital where you delivered.they will show you how to latch the baby on correctly so you won't continue to experience discomfort :)

i swear by lanolin. It's the only thing I know of that you can put on your nipples without worrying about the baby ingesting any. It is completely safe for baby.

There is an ointment called Lansinoh, lanolin that is made especially for breastfeeding mothers with this problem. It is safe for the baby, so don't worry about the baby ingesting it. Also do remember NOT to use soap on your breasts and nipples when showering and bathing. Warm water is the only thing needed for cleansing. Soap will rapidly dry out your nipples.
