my son is just 3 weeks old, and he often sleeps while feeding. I feed him however according to his sleep cycle . I dont wake him up every 2 hrs or so. I would like to know if I could feed him some water with pinch of sugar between his feedings coz I dont want him to get indigestion. Please let me know what you think

I was told by my doctor that babies should not have water or anything but breastmilk/formula until they are at least 6 months.

I was told the same thing... no water or anything else until 6 months. Is he having problems with indigestion? If so, I would talk with your doctor rather than give him sugar/water.

He is to young for water. All he needs right now is his milk. He may get full on water which has no nutrition and will not help him grow. You should wait until he is at least 6 months.

uh oh i have gave dd water around 4-6 months. But it was because she was getting constipated. Unless your baby is dehydrated or constipated i wouldn't worry too much. Although it is summer! Sugar can sause tooth decay to if your baby starts teething early like mine did. I would just make sure you drink enough water so your baby gets enough in their breastmilk.

No water! Babies get enough liquid from breastmilk or formula. Unless he is constipated, check with your doc to see if water is fine, or mix the formula with more water. Once your baby is back to his brth weight, you don't have to wake him up every 2-3 hours to feed him

No water is needed at this stage as they get everything from your breastmilk/formula. You can start introducing it around 4-6months although they have changed the weaning age now to 6months it doesn't mean that your child will hold off until he is 6months without looking for something other than milk. On demand feeding (what you are doing) is the best thing anyway for baby unless he is sick or a low weight. Other than that he will wake when hungry. If he continues to sleep try tickling his feet, stripping layers off him etc in order to wake him.
