Of course every baby is different, but mine seemed to switch over to nursing less (minutes) at about 8-10 weeks and less (feedings/day) around 3-4 months. My 2nd and 3rd are 17 months apart- it is hard, I know!! Hang in there are few more weeks and hopefully it'll get easier soon! |

From what I know formula babies dont go any longer between feedings. My son is exclusively breastfeeding and he would also go every 1 to 3 hours. I had a friend whos baby is formula fed and he ate every hour and at night usually only 2 or 3 hours at a time. I dont think there is a big difference. |

No! Formula fed babies will not sleep longer! It's the size of the belly that counts, not what's in it. Yes, bm is easier digested than formula, and therefore more nutrients are absorbed, but your daughter can't possibly eat more than her belly will hold - be it formula or bm. That sucks that your dh and mom are unsupportitve. That's the #1 reason women quit bf - and it just stinks, in my opinion. Why would they want anything less for the baby? Of course it will get easier, but only if you realize feeding through the night will continue well into your baby's 9 month, or longer. I think once you reconcile that with yourself, getting up at night isn't so bad. Try this - if dh wants you to formula feed so bad, tell him that you will, but only if he takes the night shift. That should get him to quiet down for a while! |

I agree with Bean. My ped said that even though breast milk is easier to digest, it does not mean that a formula fed baby will sleep through the night longer. AS for giving your hubby a night shift with a bottle of formula, as long as the baby takes a bottle and breastfeeding is well established, it will not hurt your milk supply or anything. Keep in mind at 6 weeks, the baby may be hitting a growth spurt, but it will get easier. AS for the family not supporting you, I know what you are going through. NONE of the women in my family have breastfed, yet everyone knows why I should go to a bottle instead. I told my mom that this is something that I want to do, it is good for me and the baby and I would appreciate her support instead of her negative comments. That's all I have for now :) Good luck! |

Gracie, my son is 6 weeks old too.... last night for the first time he slept for 5 hours. It was amazing. I am hoping it will happen again (tonight would be nice) and I totally understand what you are going through. I am back at work already (I do home day care) so I am busy all day like you are... I feel your exhaustion. One thing that helped me was to have my dh give the baby a bottle at night. he stays up a bit later than I do and gives the baby his first night feeding in a different room, so I dont wake up at all. He doesnt do it every night, but he will when I ask him to.... when I need to catch up on some sleep. As for the formula... we have tried that, giving one bottle of formula before bed and he doesnt sleep any longer at all, even when he takes 5 ounces. |
