I can't recall what the official number was, but I do remember the nurses saying that a "poop" on a newborn should be about the size of a quarter. So if there is a big mess in the diaper, that counts as more poops. Don't look count the individual actions....you may only get one a day. Go by size too! Call the hospital...the nurses in the delivery area will know. They may have sent a paper home with you that indicates what to watch for. I had to write it down every day just because the days seemed to blend together and I would forget just how many pees and poops there were. ;0)

Are there plenty of pee too? If not, this could be diarhea. Ease your mind...call the dr's office.

I called my boys "hyper-poopers"- lol. They pooped like 12x/day for a few weeks!! But, they also had plenty of wet diapers, so I didn't worry too much... doc said it was normal...

Oh, and... my dd was like your ds... about 8 poops/day... I was worried that was too little. ROFL!

Yah, that's totally normal for bf babies. I felt like all she did was poop. Bf babies don't get diarhea - or very rarely do. The poop will be very soft and runny. It may be explosive (like seriously fires across the room - my dd hit her dresser 3 feet away). All she may need to do is sneeze and a bit of poo will come out. Just make sure you use sensitive skin wipes since you're always wiping...

Ds is fine I'm sure no one ever tells how if you BF they poop all the time lol at about 9wks my DS slacked off alittle. He never had diaper rashes bad either, I always use Balmex (the clear kind) from Walmart over at the pharmacy section (its not in the baby dept.) Stuff wks great He's almost 2 & has had a red bum very few times in his life: ) Ds has been extremely healthy so all the dcing was worth it.
