A week after your baby is born. Your ribcage has expanded during pregnancy, so your band measurement may have changed; also, I personally went from a B cup to an F cup when my milk came in; I've stabilized at a D, but I never would've predicted that before my DD was born.

I would go ahead and get at least one or two to start off with now to keep you until you can get to the store. I'm thankful I got some around 35 weeks. I went into labor and wound up having an emergency C-section at 37 weeks and between the baby and recovery, there was no way I could have gotten to the mall for at least the first few weeks. I was told by the people at Motherhood Maternity to buy one cup size larger than I was wearing then (35 weeks). They also tried to tell me to buy my pre-bra band measurement, but I am glad I didn't believe them on that one. I was a 34C pre-pregnancy. By about 34 weeks I was a 38D. Now, several months after the baby was born, although I am back at my pre-pregnancy weight, I am still a 38E.

A friend suggested this to me, and I've since thanked her again and again: get yourself a couple nursing camis or nursing tank tops. Target has some great Liz Lange ones. They are S-M-L sizes instead of cup/band sizes. I had my ds in Sept. and I'm still using them for sleeping. They'll help get you through the first week of engorgement, they'll hold any pads you need in there, and once your breastmilk evens out to "normal" then you can figure out your size. I bought a bra and a nursing cami, had to return the bra because it didn't fit afterwards. Lol had my mom exchange it for another nursing cami. Oh, and I'm large breasted even when I'm NOT nursing, and now I'm about a 40D. Be wary of spending a lot of money on bras until you know what you're going to want. Good luck!

spamanda - were you able to wear the camis under clothes? Did it work like a bra? I never got those with my dd but I would like to for the next one, I thought they wouldnt be good for me because I am so big (34 dd, it was 34 E but I am weaning my 8 month old to solids and I have gone down a size)....its cool to hear they worked for you even though you are big.

Well it's Wisconsin and it's winter.... I wear them under sweatshirts and things like that. Also I think I'd be fine wearing them with a dress shirt -- they really look like a regular camisole. I have since bought "real" nursing bras that I wear to work, but the camis definitely are my sleepwear. They are more like a shelf bra, not as much support as an underwire gives me, but for me about the same as a wireless bra. Hope they work for you, too!
