Hi, I am not sure whether to post here or the infant forum on this. My dd is nearly 10 mos old but I am starting to think about weaning her when she is 11months. I'd like to be done bf 'ing by 12 months I think. We are moving when she is 13 mos and I want to have it done before that big of a change. She is totally using me as a pacifier now and it's getting so hard to have freedom. She will have just eaten and fuss and fuss until I put her on my boob just so she can suck to sleep or whatever. She also gets so distracted when she eats it takes forever while she proceeds to kick me in the face and pinch my boob and look around, etc, etc. I am going to miss the whole bf'ing thing a lot though. I love the closeness especially when she is falling asleep. I have no idea how to wean though and what the process is like. How do I start? How long should it take? What feeds to cut first and how do I avoid engorgement or discomfort? I wanted to avoid going to bottle and just move to sippy but I'm not sure if that will work. I need a plan! help!

Hi Stef, Not sure if you remember me, Jen from the very first original pregnancy forum. Anyway, my son Sean is 2 and we are still nursing. I tried to wean but decided I really like it at night and wasn't ready. What I did do is stop nursing except for naps and evening. Then after about 18 months I stopped all but going to be nursing, he still nurses 1X at night, but it is so sweet. He drinks milk now from a cup and he is doing great with it. Sure he is totally nursing for comfort but for me, that is his comfort and I don't want to take it away till he is ready. I am slowly starting to skip feedings for sleep and he is going to sleep ok.
