[Original Post]

i posted in another section of the forum that i'm having trouble with my little one and some cramping issues. i am just trying to put my finger on what could be the problem. he's almost 3 weeks old, and isnt like this 24/7, but i just feel like pooping for him is always an issue. it's like the poor heart is constantly straining to get it out. if this is normal, please tell me to just let it go and it's party of baby's growing.

but i do not know if his formula is an issue or my breasmilk (we are feeding thru both right now). my diet consists of healthy foods, but i dont know if some of the foods i am eating could be the culprit. someone told me not to eat eggs. someone said eggs are fine. someone said no milk. someone else said milk is fine. how do you go about putting your finger on a food that may be a problem?? i know someone in the other post i put said she figured out that her little one didnt like bell peppers when she'd eat them. how in the world did you figure out this one??

Well, it might be the formula. My milk didn't come in right away with my first and we had to supplement with formula for a couple of days, and he ended up constipated for about 3 days after. Dr's said it wasn't unusual for this to happen in the early weeks while their digestive systems are so new. Any way you can increase the breastmilk (pumping) and decrease the formula? Just until the pipes clear out - so to speak?

I agree with WP, it's prob the formuia. Breastmilk fed babies' poop is very loose and watery. Babies should not have to strain to get it out. Unless your baby is very gassy, it's not your diet or your breastmilk. If you really want to try out, eliminate one thing from you diet for 7-10 days to see if things improve or not. Then reintroduce to food back into your diet to see if the same problem came back. Good luck!
