Hey ladies. Does anyone know if brandy sauce is safe during pregnancy? I've been told by doctors and midwives that I can safely have 2 units of alcohol once or twice a week (although I don't ever drink...would feel too guilty!), so I know the alcohol content isn't a problem...but is it safe? I'm going for a Christmas meal with work and choosing from the menu is impossible! I had to choose soup for the starter because the other choices were; prawn cocktail, baked brie or pate on melba toast...eek! The desserts are equally as awkward...there's a chocolate mousse, something made with custard and a chocolate cake...but I'm off chocolate! I want the christmas pudding and need for someone to tell me it'll be ok!!!! Please help, or else I'll end up having soup I don't want, followed by traditional turkey, followed by nothing...washed down with lemonade...and I'll have paid £20 for the pleasure!

brandy sauce is fine...ONE drink two or three times a week is fine...don't worry..chocolate is fine...ONE or TWO (only) glasses of coffee are fine...

baked brie would have been fine if you like the stuff. The heat would have killed any harmful bacteria. The brandy will probably have no alcohol left in it if used in some thing cooked. Alcohol is flammable remember, so it burns off quickly in sauces and such just leaving the flavor. Don't know what is in the pudding but its probably pasturized and safe as well.
