I have been so good about eating the appropriate things and avoiding the no-no's. But today (I'm 20w pg) I had a deli turkey sandwich and totally forgot to heat it to the point of steaming first! I am just out of sorts and can't believe--after having done this so often--that I forgot to this time. Anyway, I guess there's nothing I can do about it now but do you think I'll be okay? Is the threat of Listeria mainly in the first trimester? I am just so worried...from this one little slip!

I've eaten my share of sandwhiches during this pregnancy and to be honest, didn't steam any of it (because I only recently found about this). I'm fine and I'm guessing you will be as well :)

Trish#- dont worry I did the same thing as bloodlust. I have not steamed any of my turkey b/c I did not know it was bad not to. I am now 32 weeks pregnant, and everything is fine with my baby. the wierd thing is......at the beginning of my pregnancy when the nurse went over all the foods to avoid during pregnancy.....she never mentioned anything about deli meat.....so I just assumed it was OK

I never steam mine...my sister had 4 kids and never did either. I guess it's a safe thing to do but my dr never said anything about it either. i justmake sure I know where the meat came from, how old it is and that it hasn't been sitting out too long.

Honestly, pregnant or not, doesn't the thought of steaming or heating deli meats turn you off?
They don't smell good when I heat them up. And I love LOVE deli meats. I was told to stay away from the "smoked" deli hams, turkey, chicken, etc... And everything else is fine.
