Hi, I think sipping on a glass of wine would be ok. That's just my opinion though. Good luck whatever you decide! |

Hi Mellie- when I was trying to get pg (I was 36 and it took me a year after a miscarriage to conceive again), I went through periods of time when I totally abstained and others when I had moderate amounts of alcohol. When I got pg in September, I did have some wine between ovulation and getting a positive test. My personal opinion is that if not drinking is going to be stressful, sipping a glass of wine all night might be a better option. The month I got pg I also started hypnotherapy and was noticeably more relaxed than I'd been in months. Not positive that it made a difference but I think it may have. Anyway, good luck! |

The effects of alcohol on fertility are not well studied, but excessive alcohol consumption has been linked with anovulation, amenerrhea (no periods), and abnormal endometrial lining. Alcohol can also alter estrogen and progesterone levels. The occasional glass of wine is unlikely to effect your fertility, but many experts still believe that it is best to forego alcohol entirely when you start ttc. Good luck! |

I really don't think that it'll do any harm at all. To be honest, the month that I conceived we were on vacation for a week and on a cruise for a week and there was plenty of alcohol that was drank by me. Some wine won't do any harm I'm sure. |

I doubt it will do harm, I got pregnant with my first on New Year's Eve 2002 and my husband and I were stone drunk (and on BC!). I never "TTC" and had alcohol inbetween my pregnancies and never had any trouble... I think stress will do more damage than a bit of indulgence. |

I had trouble getting pregnant and ended up getting some help at a fertility clinic. My Dr. recommended a glass of wine in the evenings during and after the ovulation time period to help me relax and not be so stressed out. So a small amount can't be harmful. |

Mellie, I think it's fine at that one glass an evening level. If you're that worried, figure since you implant 6 to 10 days after O you're good from af to 6dpo, and from about 6dpo to af or bfp just drink slowly and leave some in the glass (or feed the plants with it while no one is looking). It also depends on how much you weigh; the smaller you are, the less you want to consume. You could also just decline it on the basis of a tummy ache or watching your weight or some other made up thing. When they ask if you're pg, look them square in the eye and say, "Did you just say that you're pregnant?". That ought to shut them up... We all know it's best to avoid, but most of what I've read isn't clear that one drink has been shown to have caused problems... (and I've had a few here and there too!) |

Not that I would ever do this, but I have heard that some people say their doctors say it's ok to have a small glass of wine while pregnant. I'm just saying, if they say that, then I would think it would be ok to sip on a small glass of wine through an entire night when you're not even sure you're pregnant. If you really don't want to drink, you can just tell your friends either you have a slight headache (and if they offer you drugs you don't want to take, like Advil or something, just tell them you just took some) or you could tell them you're on an antibiotic and you can't have alcohol. That is, if you don't mind lying. :) Hope this helps!! |

I don't know if this helps, but I haven't been abstaining from alcohol while TTC. I'm not a heavy drinker, mind you, but on the weekends, I might have one or two drinks. I found that I'm okay with that, and I know plenty of people that were drinking or flat-out drunk when they conceived, and a few that continued to drink after because they didn't know they were PG right away. They all had normal, uneventful pregnancies and healthy babies. |
