Is it safe to lose a few pounds, (about 6 or 7) in the firs weeks of pregnancy. I'm carrying a bit of extra xmas weight at the moment and feel uncomfortable and unhappy from it. I just found out im 5 and a half weeks gone and i'd like to drop those extra pounds simply by eating healthily and cutting out all the takeaways ( i eat alot of bad food) i know as soon as i stop eating the bad food the extra weight will fall off but i want to make sure it's healthy. Thanks xxx

Eating healthy and exercising is exactly what you should do during pregnancy (tho im not one to ask! Ive eaten heaps of bad stuff!!). Its dieting thats the problem and reducing your normal calory/kilojoule intake per day as you need all the nutrition for your growing baby. Ensure you get the proper food groups each day and dont start eating like a rabbit (ie: only salads and water!)

PS: if you exercise in moderation and eat healthy - ie: lean meats and lotsa veggies, with your increased metabolism you may lose the weight without even trying! If not, worry about it after the birth. No doctor will condone dieting/weightloss in pregnancy.

Hi thanks for your help. Well I've tried to eat healthy (fish veg fruit rice) but couldn't help tucking into a curry and yesterday a nice big creamy pasta but my stomach has completly flattened anyway and i only have one chin so i am perfewctly happy with my weight now ready to grow me a nice bump and bigger boobs. I just didn't want toset excess christmas lumps that were making me feel down. Yay for increased metabolism. xxxx
