I also take seroqul 100mgs. a day. I am 17 weeks pregnant, my doctors put me on the drug for my anxiety, I am scared that something might happen to the baby, does anybody know if it is safe to take in pregnancy????

The official answer from WebMD is "This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor." I guess they only want you to use it if it is absolutely necessary and weigh the risk of the baby being exposed to it versus the benefit of you staying well enough to take good care of yourself and the baby. They don't say what exactly can happen to the baby when exposed to Seroquel (maybe they don't know) But they do mention that Seroquel is secreted in breast milk. A side question? I also am bipolar, I'm wondering if you are taking lithium, I know that one can cause congenital heart defects. My understanding is that the defects can generally be fixed by surgery, but that is so scary! I'm finding it very difficult to find accurate info about all the bipolar drugs in general in regards to pregnancy. Even my psychiatrist and obgyn can't tell me a whole lot! I guess we're relegated to surfing the web for answers. Please post back if anyone has any good info on any bipolar drugs and pregnancy.

I am on 100 of Seroquel and trying to get pregnant. Before beginning to try I discussed extensively with my psychopharmacologist whether to stay on the medication through pregnancy. He checked the most recent research and spoke with several other specialists at NYU and all agreed I should stay on the Seroquel.
He directed me to the following site for more info, which is the best resource I've seen on the web...

I suggest you check it out and discuss with your own doctors to make the best decision for you and your baby, and hopefully they will instill you with the confidence that mine did in my decision.

Best of luck. Wishing you a healthy and happy baby(and you)!

hi ladies. I was on 50 mg of Seroquel during my first pregnancy. I was on it before I got pregnant and throughout my pregnancy. My son turned out absolutely fine and perfect. I had an ultrasound done at 30 weeks just to check out his heart but everything was fine. After I gave birth I switched medication from seroquel to epival so that I could breastfeed. I plan on doing the same this time around. Good luck ladies!!
