Too Much Iron??

I know that children are easiliy posioned by iron. I am 17 wks and extremely tired, my doctor mentioned to get plenty of iron because this will help -is it possible to get too much? Can a fetus be affected by iron posioning? If not...what are iron rich foods?

As far as I know, iron is not secreted by the body, as in the case if there's too much vitamins so you should try to be aware of your intake. The only iron rich food I can think of is "Cream of Wheat" cereal. It has 47% of your recommended intake of iron. Also, maybe ask if you can get your iron levels checked if it's a concern. I'm not sure how it would affect your baby though. Wish I could help more!

It is extremely hard to get too much iron from eating alone. I think if you eat normally and take your prenatal vitamin every day that would be enough. Most women are low in iron due to menstruation each month and blood loss. I would check with your doctor to see what she recommends if you are concerned. Some iron rich foods are duck, beef, liver, potatoes with skin on, pumpkin, spinach, peas, beans, dried apricots, dried cranberries, also a lot of dry cereals are enriched with iron, so check on the boxes next time you go shopping.
