Coleslaw/cold Meats

I read on the internet that its not safe to eat coleslaw and deli meats, i have eaten both dring my pregnancy. I rang the midwife this morn who advised me both of these are fine. Any views?

I think if you are gaining alot of weigth doctors want you to avoid deli meats because of nitrates. I am pretty sure coleslaw is safe as long as you make sure it stays properly chilled to avoid food poisoning.

The reason that they say not to eat deli meats is because of the Listeria scare. Listeria is a food borne illness that causes still births in pregnant women. It is normally found in unpasteurized milks, cheeses, and juices. It can also be in lunchmeat. If you want to eat lunch meat and hotdogs, heat them until they are steaming and you are fine.
