Here's what I've tried: I'm in physical therapy, and my doctor prescribed skelaxin, which is a safe muscle relaxer. I'm also wearing a maternity belt, and sleeping with a pillow beneath my belly. All of these things may be helping a little... I do think the muscle relaxer helps a little, as much as I do not want to be taking any medications. But oh! It hurts! Walking is the only time that I'm completely comfortable. I'm a counselor and the idea of sitting for an entire hour is soooo unappealing. I'm glad to know that I'm not the biggest wuss in the world and that there are other women who agree that this discomfort is unreasonable!!!! Also, what I'm experiencing is primarily on my left side. And I've been evaluated by labor and delievery and all the fun stuff because the mystery pain miffs everyone.

I'm another one who is just relieved to find I'm not the only one! I'm 22 weeks and have been having pain in my mid-back on the right side since 17 weeks. It has steadily gotten worse and now radiated around to the front. NOTHING seems to help permanently. I am seeing a PT and a chiropractor. Sitting down and laying on my left side are both very painful. It only feels okay while walking. The best relief I get is from a heating pad behind my back while I lay on my right side and warm baths. Anyway, I'm sorry to the rest of you who are experiencing this pain, but I am glad not to be alone in it.

I have the same pain, but I am a bit more concerned because I haven't even been able to test and see if I actually am pregnant or not. My missed period won't be until the 7th. Does this sound normal??

I am 28 weeks along and have been having this pain in my right side under my breast sometimes reaching around to my back for about 2 months now. I had a sonogram of my gall bladder and it came back normal but the pain remains. My drs have suggested hot water bottle, warm bath and tylenol but this does not take the pain away. I am hoping that pain starts to subside as I have 12 weeks left. This is my first child and the thought of going through this again scares me. I had acupuncture done and it relaxed me and helped a little. Thank you all for sharing. Its good to know I am not alone!

i am 23 weeks pregnant with twins and have pain from my sternum to my ribs on my left side, also it goes numb and tingles quite often. this has been going on since about 18 weeks. does anyone have a solution or know if its something to be concerned about?

FinallyPreggers - July 21st, 2008 12:30 PM

roark123, I'm 22.5 weeks with large fibroids, so the docs say it's like I'm carrying twins or triplets. I have similar pain, but mostly on the right side (since fibroids are on the left and baby is on the right). I can feel baby moving under my rib cage. I mentioned it to my doctor and now I'm in physiotherapy. We're trying to get more space for baby. It's helping a little - better than nothing. I'm not sure about the numbness and tingles though. I've only had bad bad pain. Any suggestions for a comfortable position in which to sleep? I'm so huge (measuring about 37 weeks now) and am never comfortable. It's worse at night because I really want to sleep and can't from the pain.

I am 24 weeks pregnant and have felt intense pain in my right side the entire pregnancy. The doctor says it is common and not to worry. For about 3 weeks I've had a lot of pain in my mid-back , ribcage, and right shoulder blade. Nothing seems to offer much relief, however exercise and stretches seems to help a little.

I have had a very similiar pain, it started as an ache in my right side rib cage early on in my pregnancy around 10 weeks or so and was intermittent throughout the pregnancy now during the last few weeks (I am 38 weeks today) it has turned into a constant piercing pain shooting from under my right side shoulder blade around my rib cage; it is almost constant. I am miserable I can't sit or lay comfortable to say the least it prevents me from sleeping. I have had a gallbladder ultrasound as well as a blood test for my liver counts and all are normal. My doctors say I'm an enigma. I surely hope this baby does not decide to come late I don't know if I can handle much more!
