Could This Cold Be A Problem For Me And The Baby?

It's not usually recommended for ANY women to take cold medications during pregnancy. As horrible as this may sound, cold meds only aleviate symptoms, not cure the cold, so you'll have to come up with other ways to make yurself feel better. Try vapor rub, and a hot steamy shower for congestion, drink OJ for vitamin C and get lots of rest. |

I had a terrible sinus infection during my second trimester (green stuff and really bad congestion). My doctor put me on an antibiotic, saying that the antibiotic was safe, but the risk of infection wasn't. I'm sure your doctor will do whatever they deem best for both you and the baby. Good luck! |

Hi there, i had the flu when i was 6 wks and my dr said just gargle salt water and drink fluids, get rest as i didnt want to take any antibiotics. In terms of the baby , my dr said it wont be affected by a cold/flu and all it would get would be antibodies, which would make it more resistant in long run to colds anyway!! :) |

My doctor told me Sudafed was safe. Don't take increased amounts of vitamin C without asking your doctor first. |

momma3tobe-dont see anywhere that someone told her in increase vit C except trinity who suggested drinking OJ. Is a prenant woman supposed to ask her doctor before drinking juice that contains vitamins? |

I had the flu at about 8wks and all I did was drank a lot of grape & orange juice, i had soup and rested for 2 dys. The vapor rub really works too. Pepper mint oil works well with the vapor rub too. |

please do not take a hot steamy shower as this will raise your body temp which is dangerous and can cause miscarriage |

i agree with clair, but if your hot steamy shower is hot enough to raise your core temp to 102 degrees or higher (which can increases the risk for neural tube defects in the first trimester or miscarriage and dehydration later in the pregnancy.) then you are showering in scalding water for a VERY LONG TIME. Dont know about the rest of you, but everytimeme or my 5 year old take a shower, the mirror manages to steam up, i didnt think it was very hot, and neither does my son, but in a effort to be miss know it all, clair advises every pregnant women to take a shower that will not steam up a mirror, because apperantly she feels that in order for steam to occur, it has to be super super hot. Will eating hot food raise core temp too? |

Sorry to all, I must clarify my post. "take a normal shower, and the warm steam that caused from evaporation, should help with congestion." Like clair advised-dont take hot showers, obviously cold is the way to go, sorry for any confusion |
