hole in my chest - September 27th, 2005 12:58 PM

tap water gave me heartburn, watching a commercial for mcdonalds gave me heartburn, and i should have had my hubby buy stock in the tums company! my doc told me one zantac at morning and at night, two if it gets really bad. he is now my favorite person in the world, and i worship at the shrine of zantac! lol seriously, if your doc says ok, and you don't want to stick to strictly natural remedies, zantac is the best.

i started gettign heartburn like a week into my pregnancy, i didn't know it then but that was my first symptom (looking back i realize this), and i have had it ever since, and this isn't just normal heartburn this is Mega heartburn, it just doesnt seem to go away, just sits there in the back of my throat! yuck.. i know. i was told to sit up straight when and right after i eat (it helps a little), prop my self when i sleep... eat small meals (a hard one i must admit), and take a OTC antacid, but not until after i eat b/c it could mess w/ digestion.. however the thing that has helped me the most is this lavendar/chamomile organic tea my mother in law gave me, i still need to check w/ the doc if its ok but i had some at her house and for the rest of the day my stomach was calm..

This is in response from Michele's comment on Sept. 9, 2005. DO NOT EAT PAPAYA OR TAKE PAPAYA SUPPLEMENTS. DOING SO CAN INCREASE YOUR RISK FOR MISCARRIAGE. This is not common knowledge, but it should be! For more information, copy & paste the following address into your Web browser:

I am 4 months pregnant and what works for relieving heartburn is a cup of hot water. I sip on that and it relieves the heartburn it will also make you burp. Its the most natural thing. No worries if over the counter drugs will harm your baby.

I am 5 months pregnant and have been suffering from TERRIBLE hearburn as well. Everytime I eat, no matter what it is, I get heartburn. I have been taking Zantac, but it really doesn't seem to help. I can't lay down because that makes it worse. I am going to try to chew gum and drink soy milk. Thanks for the tips. Good luck Kia!

I think hot water is the best solution. Milk didn't work for me. It made it worse.

I SIT ON MY COUCH TO SLEEP, IF I LAY DOWN OR BEND OVER, IT ALL COMES UP. IVE DONE THE TUMS, MILK,MYLANTA OVERDOSES,AND IT ONLY GIVES TEMPORARY RELIEF. MINTS WOULD KILL ME, AND BURPING ONLY BRINGS IT ON. I AM 9 MO. ALONG.CAN/T WAIT FOR D-DAY.

I have bad heartburn also and I take Pepcid AC (starts working in 1-2 hours though) or have ice-cream or a smoothie. If those don't work, make sure you are not constipated and that you are digesting everything properly. Constipation makes heartburn so much worse!

Talk to your doctors! There are tons of options out there for pregnant women to help with heartburn. I was unfortunate and had gallstones which resulted in a surgery for me during week 14 of my pregnancy...and in the end, heartburn has proved to be a major problem for me. You can try Zantac or Prevacid which is even stronger...but talk to a doctor about either before you take them.

You have to get some tums..LOL. I'm almost 6 months pregnant with my second and suffering from very bad heartburn..and milk never really worked for me.

joana - May 14th, 2006 9:33 PM

1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in 1/2 glass of water sipped during a meal. it works

JEANA - June 17th, 2006 6:50 PM

My docoter said it is perfectly safe for me to take zantac. Check with your doctor about a dosage first. I have a higher dosage that was prescribed to me but I have been buying the zantac 75 at the drugstore and it totally helps.
