hi everyone, i am new to this site. I had my first ultrasound yesterday and was pretty heart broken when we saw only an empty sac. I should be 8 weeks from my LMP but it read only 6 weeks. They took more blood and i get the results today. I go back tomorrow, only 2 days later for more blood work and another ultrasound. Isn't that too soon for another ultrasound to see different results? We are so scared that this is a blighted ovum. The doctor didn't say that but after reading online it is hard not to think that might be the case. Anyone else have anything similar happen to them with good news at the end? thanks!

Hi Tricia. When I was in a similar situation to yours, I found a lot of hope and stories of positive outcomes on a website called misdiagnosedmiscarriages (just add the dot com). Unfortunately for me, I didn't have the miracle outcome after all, but check out that site and you'll find lots of women who did "find" their baby on later scans when they weren't visible at first. I hope you'll be one of those blessed/fortunate ones!

Thank you so much for your reply gbsmom. My husband and I went back today and the Doctor saw a yolk sac that measured 5 weeks 6 days. We go back again on Monday (4 days later) to have another ultrasound to see if we can see a fetal pole. I think we were both shocked as the doctor saw it right away and only after 2 days later of nothing. So we are just hoping and praying we were just so completely off on all of our dates.

tricia, you should ask your doctor what are the numbers from your bw. I don't want to scare you but my last pregnancy I went for my first ultrasound at 8 weeks and only thing they saw was the sac and said that I was only measuring at 6 week. I then had to go to the ER at 11 weeks due to bleeding. After they did the u/s I knew it wasn't good. I later found out when I started to try to get pregnant again that my levels were not doubling, and if my doctors had payed attentioned to it they could have gave me meds to help. I wish you the best and just pray that you were just off with your cycle. Keep us posted on your next u/s, I will pray for you.

Hello everyone, at the doctor yesterday we saw the fetal pole so that was great to see things progressing along. We did not hear a heartbeat yet so we are going back yet again on Friday to hopefully hear and see something. They did take more blood to see if my levels are rising. Last week they were about 67,000 so they won't be doubling my doctor said, just rising. I won't have those results until Thursday. This is going to be a long week. Thank you all for your support and comments. It is really helpful. Hopefully I'll have good news by the end of the week.

praying for you.. What was the out come of your last appointment

TriciaM - May 22nd, 2009 12:29 PM

Well not good news at all. My hormone levels dropped around 15,000 from the week before and nothing has grown and no heartbeat. I am scheduled for a D&C next Thursday, we chose that route so we could try and move on and try again sooner rather than waiting for it to happen naturally and see when I can become regular again. We are pretty numb right now and don't think it really has hit us just yet. We know that God only knows why this happened and that there will be something better for us in the future. Trying to be strong right now but so incredibly hard. Thank you all for your supportive words and hopefully we'll be expecting again in the new few months.

Tricia I am so sorry for your loss. I know how terrible and unexpected it can be, and although there is usually a good reason why miscarriages happen, we never know what made our bodies act this way. The tiny sliver of good news is that there is evidence that women are more fertile after a miscarriage. I got pregnant within a couple months after each of my two miscarriages, and finally the third preganancy seems to be sticking. Good luck and try to be as positive as possible. Let us know how everything goes :)

Tricia - I am SO sorry for your loss, I truly am. I agree with mm28, as hard as it may be right now you have to focus on that little something positive. I wish you nothing but good luck and I hope to see you back on here soon again with great news :) Just know that God knows what he is doing and he will bless you again *HUGS*

Tricia,

So sorry.

I had a blighted ovum my first time and had no signs or symptoms until spotting at 12 weeks. They did a blood test hormone levels were great, but the US showed a 6weekd5day empty sac (strangely it seems to be the average time most ladies give).

I wish you a speedy recovery and sanity as you heal.
