Hello Ladies!

I had my first ultrasound today. I found out that I am 10 weeks and 1 day. My due date is January 13th. That is about two days different from what I had calculated frommy period. We got to see the baby and hear the heartbeat. His/Her heartbeat was 162 bpm. From the heartbeat I am thinking it is a boy...but of course the heartbeat thing is an old wive's tale....but turned out true with my son. :) The baby seemed to be taking a bit of a nap during the scan and was just laying around but the heartbeat was strong and healthy! :) Seeing and hearing that made me feel a million times better and made the whole thing more exciting and more real!

How is everyone else doing? Some of us are getting really close to the second trimester! :)

I know! I cant wait to hit that 12w mark... July 9th cant come fast enough! 3 more weeks to go.... ugh
once I hit that 2nd trimester, I will finally feel comfortable with telling people... no one knows as yet... not even my parents or sisters... i am literally bursting to tell them....

1standexcited...after about 9-10 weeks (in which the HB rate supposedly peaks) the HB drops to about 150-160 for the rest of term. I wouldn't be at all concerned about your rate since you're already in week 12.

I'm still dealing with intense nausea most of the time. I've been trying everything and have settled on eating Cliff bars basically for the next 3 weeks. It's the only thing (surprisingly) that doesn't make me feel worse after I eat it.

Still haven't gained any weight, but I'm not worried considering I started at a high BMI (stupid BMI) anyway.

Yeah, when I went in for my US it was super weird seeing the little one moving about. Reminded me of watching a puppy dream as it sleeps.

Hoping the nausea switch kicks into off gear fairly soon otherwise I don't know that I'll be able to look back on this as being a pleasant pregnancy (which I was kind of hoping for).

BTW, has everyone here seen the documentary The Business of Being Born? If so, thoughts?

PinkAmerican - its nice to not have gained any weight... I am so worried that I will gain too much. I seem to gain weight just by thinking or looking at food, and that is when i was NOT pregnant. Lol

I went to my first OB appointment last night.... I do love my OB, she is very sweet.... but it is definitely not the same care you experience at the RE... they are just so much more particular and details matter so much more. My OB has asked me to go to the hospital in about 2 weeks- anytime between 11 and 13 weeks, and get my 1st trimester scan, where they test for down syndrome. Have any of you ladies done this? How was it? I was asking my OB if this was something that she recommended for all her patients, or was there a particular reason, etc. I dont have a family history of down syndrome, and I am not over 35.... but she said that it is new testing that is available, and if insurance covers it, why not? which sounded good to me! lol

I'm going for that scan in 2.5weeks time myself. I'm the same. No family history of anything at all and I'm 33.

Bottom line, it's a way to make money for the med groups. I hate to say it, but this is a business for them and nickle and diming the insurance companies is the best way they can earn their money.

People like us, who are low risk with no family history, shouldn't be having these tests, but what to do? They play the 'for the sake of the baby' card and as a parent in waiting it gnaws on you not to get it done.

My midwife is also trying to get me to take an early glucose tolerance test because my father (through horrible life decisions)developed type 2 diabetes. It's a precaution for gestational diabetes. Though EVERY blood testing I've ever had (fasting or not) has shown my glucose level right in the middle.

I haven't done the test yet because the idea of sucking down that 'otter pop' flavored sugary beverage makes me gag. I need to get through this nausea first. And even if I 'fail' the test, what will they do? Tell me to eat right and exercise? Um, I was already planning on it.

I can't stand excessive medical intervention in what's supposed to be a totally natural thing. I'll take it if I get into that 2-10% scary pregnancy scenario, but otherwise, how necessary is it?

lol- that is a good point. My husband was saying the same thing... but then we both thought "if we have the insurance to cover the cost why not take advantage!"

for the 1st trimester scan, it is just an ultrasound right? what are you talking about when you refer to sucking down the sugary beverage? is that what you need to do for the glucose test?
she didnt mention anything to me about that....

its a shame that there are so many people scheming to make a dime... and in healthcare it is all too easy to do that... people with insurance to cover things are not going to decline the over and above testing....

The first trimester scan is an ultrasound and a blood test. I was told it'll be a finger prick only.

The glucose thing is ONLY if they want to pre-scan you for gestational diabetes and that's ONLY if you have any family history of diabetes (as is the case with my father).

I wouldn't worry about it. Totally an unnecessary test because all they'd do if they saw something is make you retake it with a 3 hour tolerance (which most ladies pass) and if you failed that they'd tell you to watch what you eat and exercise. Big surprise.

got you... cool.. .i just got a lil thrown off when she asked me to go in for this scan. I had thought I had read that unless you had a family history of down syndrome, or were over the age of 35, these such tests were not advised... but guess it is just turning into a money making thing....
guess i will get to scheduling mine than.

Where is everyone at? This forum is so quiet! What has everyone been up to? Everyone feeling okay?

Hi rpats and all the pregos out there... Not much happening here except the morning sickness that lasts all day! The clothes that are getting tight although the last appointment said I haven't gained any weight. The tiredness and feeling like I am not accomplishing much. But most of all the worriness... My husband and I didn’t want to tell anyone until 12wks but we just could not hold it in... Last Sunday, I was only 9 wks, at a father's day dinner but husband announced that he was thrilled that he was going to be a daddy again. Everyone was shocked but happy. I am glad he said it but now if something happens it will be even sadder to tell everyone the bad news. Last time we waited and since no one knew we suffered privately. I pray this one sticks and I can wait for the 12wks point when I can rest a little easier... How is everyone doing?

Hi there! Just waiting on bed rest until next Monday when I have my first prenatal appointment. For some reason that is beyond me my doc wanted to wait until I was 12wks (next Monday.) Oy this waiting game stinks, but I am hopeful. Just spotting light pink at times so I took the rest of the week off just to be cautious. My first baby, have no idea what I am doing, haha. I hope your next appointment shows to prove a healthy little bean! How is everyone?

hoping4baby3- i hear you! we are DYING to tell people about our first little one... and when I first got that BFP i instantly counted out the 12weeks hoping it would be SOON. I have 2 weeks to go... and we have not yet told anyone. I did tell my co-worker a few weeks back before I got the BFP because I just had to vent to someone and she is a mom, so I figured it would be good, and boy am I glad. I just cant WAIT to tell our fams... they are going to be so excited. last sunday we got teased alot about when it would be our turn to officially celebrate fathers day...... lol if they only knew!

Micheleishopeful- oh boy! good thing you took the time off.... def rest up and take it easy... you are only a few days from that first trimester finish line! i bet you are so excited for that. I had my first prenatal visit with my OB this past Monday... I was a little over 9 weeks... so she asked me to come back next week when i am about 10.5 weeks..... def makes you feel better each and every time you can see the lil one on that monitor.... so here's to hoping Monday comes real quick for you!

and also hoping- i hear you on the tight clothes! i havent gained any weight yet either (thank god)... but i feel like my stomach is def bulging.... but i think it is somewhat in my head? lol its the guilty conscience

rpats I hear ya on the tight clothes as well, my tummy feels as if it's bulging. Could very well be a guilty conscience..haha. Thank you I really hope that this week goes by I am getting myself all stressed out. I guess it will be good though because I will already be at 12 wks, hopefully. So exciting! So you are 9 wks or 10.5? So exciting! Keep us posted, it totally makes me feel better knowing others are going through the same first couple months of pregnancy. Not all the same, but it's reassuring swapping stories and sharing how our little beans are growing!

i know- it is very exciting. I am so glad I found these forums,I think they are great....
I will be 10 weeks tomorrow, so I will be going back to my OB at 10.5 weeks - next week for my 2nd visit...
Then the week after I am going to the hospital (at 12 weeks) to get my 1st trimester scan. That is the day I am stressing over- I cant wait to get the u/s and b/w and hear that everything is okay..... man it cant come fast enough!

Well I thought I was supposed to get an ultrasound on the 19th, then it got moved to the 22nd and when I went to the doctor they said no ultrasound just a pelvic & blood work. Now I have to wait until the 30th for the ultrasound. I don't even know how many weeks I and it's killing me to wait. Hopefully the time will go fast. I just want to see the baby and make sure everything is okay. Besides being really tired I don't even feel pregnant. My nausea has pretty much disappeared. I didn't have any symptoms with my other prenancies either but it makes the first trimester nerve racking because you don't know if the pregnancy is strong. Wish me luck!!!!

oh man babyhugs! that is so tough to not know how far along you are! that totally sucks.... good thing you only have 6 more days.. i can imagine the anxiety!
the weird thing for me is everytime I go in, my doc tels me a diff due date. Lol
Like on Monday I should have been 9w4days, and it came up as only 9w0d on the u/s.... i know it can vary a few days, but kinda annoying to go backwards! lol
