I know this probably sounds vain, but I love being brown. I feel better all around about myself, which is really needed right now. I am 5wk1day today! I have read a lot of different sources online, but noone has a definite answer. The deal with the tanning bed apparently is that high maternal temperatures in the first trimester have been linked with spina bifida. I quit going to the tanning bed and have laid out occasionally, but that is probably just as hot. I hate dealing with the rub on stuff, but off course I don't want risk anything that could hurt my baby. I need suggestions!!!

There are a few options that are much better than laying out in the sun or using a tanning bed. I like the spray on stuff - I think Neutragena sells it, and I also like the sunless stuff from SkinSoSoft/Avon. Both products can be sprayed for an even looking tan, and you don't get orange hands, or unsightly streaks. Believe me, I'm the worst when it comes to applying sunless tan lotion, and these products kept me with an even looking tan. I would stay away from laying out in the sun and beds not just because you are pregnant, but also because they are unhealthy as a general rule. I had a small cancerous bump removed from my shoulder last year that was caused by skin cancer, and my doc was pretty sure I got it just from casual sun tanning in my backyard. Just play it safe...
