My mother, who had me 19 years ago, is spazzing out on me for reaching my arms above my head. My doctor, or any of my pregnancy readings thus far, have not said anything about it. She claims they told her it could rap the baby's cord around it's neck.

My 1st appointment is today. I'm approx 5 weeks 2 days, will they do an u/s and has anyone ever heard a heartbeat this early?

Has anyone heard anything like this?

It's suggested that in your last trimester that you don't reach high above your head.. you have a ways to go before you need to worry. I had an ultrasound done yesterday and I was 5wks and 2days as well, are you due Nov. 27th? Anyway, there was nothing but an empty sac.. couldn't yet see the yolk, or fetalpole and definitely no heartbeat. I've been rescheduled for 10days which is the 9th. Hoping to see some activity by then. Tell your mom not to freak you out!!

sounds like mom is just trying to get your into good habits now so you don't do these things later on in pregnancy. It's like the whole sleeping on your left side..not on your back, belly, or right side....just getting into good practice! Right now, you're baby doesn't even have an umbilical cord! Good luck!

I have always heard this was an old wives tale. I have 2 boys now and am pregnant again and never refrained from stretching my arms above my head, my kids are fine.

I have also heard that this is an old wive's tale.

It is an old wives tale. Putting your arms over your head WILL NOT cause the cord to wrap around the neck. This only happens, in rare cases, because the baby is very active and gets its self tangled up. This is in no way your fault if it happens. So no wrries ladies! =]

LMAO! It's not true! You are not going to wrap the cord around your baby's neck by lifiting up your arms! :o) Old wives tale! I hope you were able to hear the heartbeat...I did not get to when my u/s was that early though. Good luck!
