I am early in my pregnancy - approx 5 weeks 5 days from last period. I've experienced minor spotting and had an intravaginal us last night. The heartbeat was good and strong but the radiologist said he could not detect a fetal pole. Everything else - gestational size, beta hcg in 7000's and closed cervixs - was normal.
I've read this might be too early to detect the fetal pole. Anyone have the experience of a normal heartbeat but no fetal pole - or is it just too early to tell?

Is the fetal pole the yolk sac? That they see at about 8 weeks. Now you have me worried--no one mentioned fetal pole to me!! I am 9w/2d.

With my experience....totally normal!
I had my first ultrasound at 5wks days and they saw only yolk and yolk sac but no fetal pole. At 7wks 2 days I had a repeat ultrasound and we saw our baby and heartbeat! I definately think it's too early to tell. Good luck!

Is the pole before or after the HB?

It sounds strange.... since the fetal pole is the term for the baby very very early on. The heartbeat would have to be in the fetal pole. I'm not totally clear on how you could see the heartbeat, but not a fetal pole? I guess anything is possible! I'd take comfort from the heartbeat... That is a good sign! It is awfully early to see much...
