My fertility doctor believes I implanted late and was not concerned that they couldn't see a baby in the sac yet. I was 5 weeks 4 days at my u/s. They said that it's really not from the conception date but from the date of implantation that counts in the sac size and whether you see a baby.. My hcg has been doubling and then some every other day. I have symptoms, etc. I have a good size corpus luteum and cervical length. Has anyone had the experience of only having a sac week and then the baby the following week? My doctor told me not worry yet and that everything else looks fine and if I implanted late that would explain why they couldn't see a baby.

countrymom, what was the date of your lmp? When did you ovulate or get your IUI? 5w4 days is very early. A heartbeat can sometimes be seem and around 3weeks past ovulation. But the tech must be quite skilled to see this that early as they are dealing with minute cells. I am glad everything seems ok otherwise..I would say that you will be able to see something within a week or so. What are your beta levels?

Don't worry! I had my first scan at 5w5d and all they saw was a sac. I am now 13w2d and just had another u/s and baby is active and well! As long as beta levels doubling, you should be fine!

Hi Kristen, my lmp was 12/9 and I ovulated on 12/23 (suspected). The whole "when your SUPPOSED to see the baby thing" is based on the 28 day cycle with ovulation occurring on the 14th day, and implantation taking roughly 5 days. I have learned through my experience this time that a lot of women don't have "regular" cycles and don't necessarily ovulate right on the 14th and implantation doesn't always occur exactly 5 days after fertilization....sooooo I'm hoping that I implanted late and that this is the reason why we can't see a baby yet. Bravo on your comment about seeing the heartbeat at 3 weeks. You are right on with that...if the machine is top notch and if the tech knows what they are looking for it can be SEEN (vs. heard) ...so many sites I find have folks stating that a hb can't be seen until 7/8 weeks. And well actually, if the there is late implantation, this would probably be the case. My betas were doubling nicely but I've read too that with a blighted ovum hcg can still increase....so just sitting on pins and needles til Friday.....I wish I could remain calm...

Lots of threads on this... 5-6weeks is even a bit early to see a heartbeat. No need to worry. :)

carpenter....when you see a fertility doctor you are monitored much more closely so an u/s at 3 weeks is normal. My regular gyn wants to see his pregnant patients at 8 weeks. They usually don't have the extra sensitive equipment that a clinic would have and so couldn't see anything anyway.

I had an u/s done at 6 weeks showing 3 sacs, however only 1 baby in one of them. Is this common? i am supposed to go back in 2 weeks for another ultra sound, however im still so confused. Could this develop into something more? or are they just empty? At 6 weeks my blood tests are normal, not high, and i am experiencing pretty bad nausea and exhaustion this early on...any advice?
