My dh got a tatoo when I was pregnant with my first, and I asked the artist if it would be safe for me to get one, and he said "NO WAY" I would wait until after the baby is born.

The REAL reasons that you shouldnt get a tattoo when you are pregnant.
When i questioned my tattoo artist about why they wont give pregnant women tattoos he gave me 3 answers that make perfect sense. 1. With any tattoo, surgery, or peircing there is ALWAYS a chance that the person will not take proper care of themselves, and infection can occur. 2. They are not allowed to give tattoos to people who are not 100% mentally stable, and as we all know, when ladies are pregnant, their minds can change like the wind. And 3. The best and strongest answer was : The tattoo may not stay. As all pregnant females who have tried to dye their hair know, it doesnt take all the time, and sometimes it will turn funny colors due to the oils that your body will excrete. They are afraid that it will be all for naught. But the tattoo on your back, its in your best interest to wait until you have delivered. Especially on your back, as it WILL stretch and prolly look a little funny. :) Good luck!

Thanks Amber, the artist I talked to didn't give me any reasons, just that it was unsafe. Those are definately all good reasons though. Thanks for the insight.

Another issue with tattoos is, because if the pain (I have a LARGE tattoo on my lower back - trust me, it hurts), your blood pressure rises dramatically. This, I'm sure, can not be good for expectant mothers!!!

Hi, I have many tattoos. In some states it's illegal to get tattooed while your pregnant. I usually get tattooed in ohio, my tattooist said if he was caught tattooing a pregnant girl he would get into trouble and get huge fines.
