Hi Chantal: six weeks until the due date (April 20)! Feeling pretty good although sleeping is becoming a challenge -- the little guy will literally kick me until I move if I'm lying too much on my side and trapping his little feet beneath me. Am trying not to worry about whether the Prometrium will have any ill effects on him, but admit that it's hard not to worry about that. Thanks for asking!

OK girls; I need help. I'll do some internet research today about this new issue that I apparently have. I had my Doc's appointment last night to get a requisition for my BETA and also to talk to him about our next steps with no being able to conceive in 6 months now; since my last miscarriage. I told him I was experiencing major weight gain then loss and extremely bad acne etc...He checked my chart again and noticed I had issues with my left ovary (full of cysts). The Doc at the Fertility clinic says not to worry; and my family Doc is telling me that he thinks this is what is stopping me from conceiving lately. He want's to put me on METFORMIN. ( I have to research this). I'm just so tired of being told to just continue trying while others are telling me I have issues to clear up first! I really don't want to have another miscarriage and I'm seriously considering going to the USA for a second opinion. Does anyone take Metformin as well as prometrium?

jonelle - March 9th, 2007 12:54 PM

Hello Chantal and all of my other friends! I am sorry that I have been away from the forum for a few days but we are moving into a new house...yes, very exciting but seriously overwhelming! But bear with me and I will chat as much as possible. Chantal, my husband is in the medical field and says he also suggests you have your thyroid checked. I read him your latest entry and he said "thyroid" as soon as I was telling him the symtpoms. He says that it also sounds like polycystic ovarian syndrome...which we know can cause trouble getting pregnant. So, enough of the medical stuff...how are you? You have been on my mind and I am ready to move into next month with you and get cracking again. Like you said to me, it truly means alot to have someone in the same boat to be there right with you. So I have to start my prometrium on the 22nd...what about you? The 25th or so right? My period also went as fast as it started. It was SUPER heavy the first 2 days, something which I am not used to...and now on the 4th day it is almost gone! All I keep saying is "what are these hormones doing to me!" But we are women and we take it like champs...we have to because men wouldn't be able to handle it:):):) Well girls...I am back to cleaning and unpacking to try and get my life in order...wish me luck...for the house I mean because I could use that right now! Cleaning is NEVER fun! And wishes too for another good month of trying...talk to you all soon!

Hello Ladies. I'd like to join you if possible. My DH and I have been ttcing for about a year and a half now. I've had tests including thyroid testing, testing fsh levels and an hsg...all came out good and my doctor has recently prescribed prometrium as I have 25 day cycles. I have 200mg tablets that I am to take from day 13 to day 26(or one of the next cycle). I am taking them orally. Has anyone had success with that dosage and taken them orally?

Amberlys Mom - March 11th, 2007 10:19 PM

Paulam, Yes, After a few miscarriages the doc put me on prometrium with this one. I took them orally for awhile, I am now 15 weeks pregnant! so It works, but man does it make you break out, lol!

paulam - March 12th, 2007 10:27 AM

I'm due to start taking them on the 20th of this month. Hopefully the side effects won't be too bad.

heidistauff - March 12th, 2007 12:40 PM

Hi everyone. I have a question. I had low progesterone and was put on procheive (progesterone suppositories) My doctor told me I can not get my progesterone level checked now because it does not show up in blood tests because it is localized to the uterus. Has anyone ever heard this before????? I'm frustrated.

Lexineli - March 12th, 2007 2:42 PM

has anyone been told by their dr to take tums?

minkey - March 12th, 2007 4:23 PM

Hi heidistauff: That is a bunch of bull. I took Prometrium as a suppository and demanded that my nurse midwife re-test my progesterone after I'd been on the Prometrium for several days, to make sure the level was going up (it more than doubled after 5 doses, by the way). I had told my nurse midwife that I was going to take them as suppositories (he told me I could take them orally or vaginally), so he knew I was taking them vaginally. The "localized to the uterus" stuff is complete crap. It's getting into your blood stream whether you're swallowing it or inserting it into your vagina; your body is absorbing it one way or another. If your doctor won't do a second test of your progesterone (it's a simple blood test, for goodness sake!), find someone else who will -- or tell them that you'll pay out of pocket for it if insurance doesn't cover it (which is my hunch as to why they don't automatically do a f/u blood test for progesterone once you start on progesterone). My nurse midwife, who is otherwise very supportive and helpful, didn't offer the progesterone test. I had to demand it! I guess they figure if it's working, you'll stay pregnant and if it's not, you'll miscarry. Which is horrible logic to employ on any woman; you want to know if it's working and you want to know now! Don't be afraid to ask for the test; it's YOUR body and YOUR health. Good luck and let us know what happens!

I typed in Prometrium, and it took me to this website, w/you ladies.:O) What a relief that I don't feel like Im the only one anymore. I have two kids already 10 and 12. I had a tubal reversal in July and 7mos later here i am 6 weeks prego. Doc called and said my progesterone was low and I needed to take this med to keep pregnancy. I dont have history of m/c, so it frightened me. But after reading everyones posts, I feel so much better. I have a ultrasound next week so cross your fingers that everything is good.

Chantal - March 14th, 2007 2:46 PM

Hi Jonelle:
congrats on the new house!!! Your husband was BANG on with my issues! I saw my Doctor last week and he diagnosed me a under active thyroid PLUS, PCOS. So, now I'm taking Metformin every day and I just started on CLOMID today! I will continue with prometrium after ovulation as usual...but now I have to check my blood sugars throughout the day. This frustrates me because the Fertility Clinic here told me not to worry about my cysts...that they would burst on their own. This medication will straighten everything out and it will be easier for me to deal with my screwed up cycles. YAY...for clomid also; because apparently with PCOS you never form your eggs entirely....so, this medication with metphormin will clear all that up. So, I'm on day 5 today...and due to start prometrium on the 25th...YOU were right! Funny how we know EXACTLY what we are are up to huh? Good luck this month my friend...keep in touch!

jonelle - March 15th, 2007 10:36 AM

Hey Chantal! I have been running around like a mad woman with the new house and thought that I would send you a note to say hello. My husbands specialty is ER, but he did do his medical rotations in all fields so I am glad that he could help and was right at the same time! I am glad that you have so many things answered now and can really be productive and hopefully succcessful! I am on day 10 so I will start my prometrium on the 17th. I hope it works too! I need to vent for just one minute. My mother in law was here this past weekend helping us move and she told me that one of my husbands cousins was expecting. And she also said that it was totally unplanned and a huge accident...my thought was that there is no reason for an accident in this day and age. She already has one son who is 6 with autism and was born with a cleft pallette and a daughter who is 3. So...she has her hands full and there truly was no need for an accident...I guess no one is really happy about it. My thing is why can't I have an "accident?" When I was talking to my mother in law more about it last night she told me that Dana didn't want to tell us because she knows that we have been trying and feels really bad...she is 3 months and due sometime in september. I was REALLY bummed when I got that news because you feel like you are a freak that can't get pregnant but everyone else can even when they don't truly want to! OK...done venting...hope you have a great day and I can't wait to talk to you again! Get busy girl:)

Chantal - March 15th, 2007 11:31 AM

Hi Jonelle; you can vent on me anytime! I totally understand your situation with the cousin. This happened to us also; but she boasted about it...as if rubbing it into our faces. And she's the last person deserving (she drinks, smokes etc...throughout the pregnancy). This irritates ME to NO END>
I've been painting a mural for the future baby room...just something to give me hope and happiness and I sent my cousin an email to show her. Her reply was: "Don't you think your jumping the gun?" the way things are looking isn't good, why would you do something stupid like that?". Well, I cried all day yesterday. What nerve eh? She's just jealous cuz' she never did anything for her kids rooms.
I'm feeling very good now...not so sick from all the drugs; I'm just so excited to start the DEED. I can't believe I'm saying that...cuz' lately it just isn't fun anymore! DAY 10 for you...you've got to start the deed too! Have Fun...talk again soon.

minkey - March 15th, 2007 12:22 PM

Hey Chantal and Jonelle: Chantal - so glad to hear you've gotten a new diagnosis and are attacking the situation! Fingers crossed that this is just the "fix" your body needed. And if painting a mural for the baby's room keeps you focused and happy, then do it! Positive thoughts bring positive thoughts. And Jonelle -- it's incredible how insensitive people can be around infertility issues. You must want to just kick the crud out of your husband's cousin -- and mother in law! I'm sorry you have to hear all that and suffer through the "why her and not me" mental torture. We had a similar situation with my first miscarriage -- my husband's sister who is 39 and going through a mid-life crisis (just up and divorced her AWESOME husband because she wanted to sleep around and re-live her 20s) accidentally got pregnant around the same time I had my first pregnancy. At first, she wasn't even sure which of her many boyfriends might be the father. And then she sat around for about 5 weeks and actually debated whether or not to carry the baby to term -- even though she already has 2 young kids that she could care less about (my husband and I had to buy her kids clothes for Xmas because they didn't have any that fit; she spends all her money on herself). Finally, she decided to abort the baby and then had the nerve -- a week after I miscarried -- to tell me she wished she could have given her baby to me! There are so many things wrong with that situation, the least of which being that she'd had a miscarriage before having her first child -- so she knows how awful it feels. And how can you be 39 and already have had 3 pregnancies and not want anymore kids and be sleeping around and STILL "accidentally" get pregnant? She's college educated and has a high-paying job and successful career -- but a complete moron! Anyway, sorry to vent -- but totally feel your pain on the incredible sensitivity of families around this stuff, and the absolute unfairness that people who have no business getting pregnant seem to do so easily and quickly. But I do believe we are all here to learn our own individual lessons, and no doubt about it, you two are learning patience and strength, amongst other things. Keep us posted!

SarahMarie99 - March 16th, 2007 3:56 PM

I am also on progesterone twice a day for god knows how long... and the one major thing I notice besides the leaking that I experience is that I cant seem to wake up... I am tired all day long. I go to work, I am tired, I go home, I am tired, I take a nap, and I am still tired. Does that ever stop?? My poor husband is starting to wonder if I am there cause when he is home I am sleeping or I am a scene from a zombie movie.... Also another personal question... Did anyone elses doc tell them NO SEX during the first trimester? I am going to become a born again virgin soon.

jonelle - March 16th, 2007 6:23 PM

Hey there SarahMarie...join the group! Isn't prometrium fun? I took it with my first pregnancy after I knew I was already pregnant and spotting. More than likely you will be like all the rest of us and have to continue through your first trimester. I had to take it up until 13 weeks and then I could stop it. It truly worked and I have a beautiful 2 1/2 year old to prove it. I am currently trying to get pregnant again and having difficulty. They now have put me on the promtrium starting day 17 of my cycle to see if it helps me stay and get pregnant. This is my 5th month trying and no luck yet. Today is day 11 for me, so in 6 more days I get to do the vaginal suppositories twice a day. You know what I will be doing over the next 5-6 days:) Hopefully this will be my month and I can move forward. Wish me luck:) As far as the no sex thing in the first trimester I was never told that...however, I was WAY TOO sick to even want it...more power to you girl! Let me know how you are feeling and I will be here to help where I can...talk to you soon!
