Hey ladies. This is my first time posting. I was put on Prometrium suppositories 100mg/day on Saturday. I miscarried in december and just found out about 10 days ago that I was pregnant again. So I scheduled an early visit with my dr. on Friday, 4/6. She did an ultrasound and there was literally nothing on the screen. Not even a sac. She said I was anywhere from 4-6 weeks based on the first day of my last period. She seemed bothered that the u/s didn't show anything. She sent me for bloodwork and my progesterone level was at 15, my hCG was at 600. I took the prometrium Friday night and went back for more blood tests Saturday morning. I will call later today for the results. I guess my question is, what are the chances that this is a false pregnancy and am I just delaying the inevitable? Has anyone ever had this kind of experience and what happened?

jonelle - April 9th, 2007 4:11 PM

Chantal...how are you? I have been thinking about you all day today and keep checking my email to see if there are any new postings. Hope that your holiday was great and that you got great news today! Let me know...I am on day 8...so last night I started the "deed" and will every other day until the end to see what happens. I am taking your advice about the "O" and the pillows under my butt. I will start testing for my LH on Wednesday and then start my prometrium a week from tomorrow...so I am really hoping that this is the month! Let me know how you are doing! Talk soon:)

minkey - April 9th, 2007 4:18 PM

Hi klclarke - try not to worry. I had an u/s with my first pregnancy at about 4 weeks and it also showed NOTHING. It was about 6 1/2 weeks before the egg sack showed up on the u/s. So you may still be in the clear for a good pregnancy. A level 15 progesterone is good, but you might want to ask your doctor if you can take 200 mg/day. That's the amount a lot of us were prescribed and it seems to be kind of the magic number for a lot of women. With 200 mg/day, you might get your level up closer to 20 or so which is very, very solid at that point. Good luck!

klclarke - April 9th, 2007 9:48 PM

minkey - Thank you for your response. It makes me feel a little better knowing that someone else has seen that screen and things turned out ok. I got my second blood test results back this afternoon and my progesterone was at 18, and my hCG level more than doubled. They sent me for yet another test today and I should get those results back tomorrow. But things are looking better. Hoping for the best! Thanks again.

Hi Jonelle and the girls! WHAT a rollercoaster weekend for me. Ok first off, I did a pregn.test on Thursday which was a day before my period and it was negative; so, I decided to stay on the prometrium because I had scheduled an appointment with my Doctor to have my BETA taken on Monday. Saturday morning I wake up with this REALLY ODD looking left nipple; like bubbles all over it and a red one coming out of the hole! IT hurt sooooo bad that my husband took me in to Emerg. There the Doctor DID NOTHING...he didn't even touch it! He told me to go see my family Doctor and have him schedule a mammogram!??? So, he did a urine test and it was negative too. So, I then decided to stop taking the prometrium so I could start my cycle. Still haven't started to mens yet...yesterday (MONDAY) I was seeing my family Doc. He had one look at my boobs and pinched my nipples and stuff was coming out! HE said to me...are you sure you're not pregnant; you're lactating??? I told him that the Doctor at the hospital had done a urine test and it was negative...but he insists that I am. He sent me for blood work yesterday and I should have my results today! So, I had to start taking prometrium again last night! My body is OUT of WACK big time...and I just don't know what to think. Could this be possible? I even asked my Doctor if my nipples were excreting stuff because of all the drugs I am taking and he said NO. Has this happened to anyone before??? I'm really scared. I'll post my results as soon as I find out my results this morning.
Jonelle; I'm happy to hear that you are going strong!!!hee...hee...and testing your surge on Wednesday!!! yay...Best of luck this month; Hugs!!!

minkey - April 10th, 2007 1:20 PM

Chantal - you poor thing! Your poor body has just been through the ringer. Do keep us posted. I've never heard of lactation starting this early on, but for sure your boobs are the first to register pregnancy, so it seems totally reasonable that they'd be reacting in some way! I know you can start "leaking" colostrum around week 24 (a joy I've been experiencing), but maybe this is a side effect of early pregnancy that you just don't hear much about. Good luck and let us know the results!

Chantal - April 10th, 2007 3:41 PM

HI girls: RESULTS are in!
and it's negative again this month for me. There is something seriously wrong with my breasts which is worrying me; I will be seeing my Doctor again on Friday and he suggests a mammogram to rule any issues out. I've left a message for the Fertilty Clinic nurse to call me so, I can ask her if she's heard of anyone with these issues and also to schedule a tentative appointment for In-Vetro consultation. I was told in the past that I would not be a good candidate for this because I am able to get pregnant just NOT maintain it...but, it's been since last October now; and I can't seem to be able to conceive anymore!!!???? So...off the prometrium now and wait for a period and start the cycle all over again...BRING IT ON....We'll see what the Fertility Clinic has to say! I'd like to Thank all the girls again for your support and encouragement!

jonelle - April 10th, 2007 7:47 PM

Good evening Chantal and all of my friends! I am so sorry to hear that you are not pregnant Chantal...I thought for sure that you were after your first posting. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that they get everything straightened out and that it is nothing serious. I myself am on day 10 tomorrow so I will be checking the surge and keeping busy:) I am doing it every other day...I started on Easter, and that for me was day 7. So I will be doing day 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and so on until the end. Does everyone think that this is good? Let me know what you think. As much as nobody wants to hear this I also have to share one thing: Wow this is going to be embarassing:) My husband and I always usually do it missionary as I heard that it was the best position to conceive in. But this morning he was exceptionally frisky and wanted to do it doggy style...so I agreed and he is in the medical field so he knows alot of anatomy and he said when we were done that he could actually "feel" like he was in deeper and that he could feel my cervix. He thinks that it might be a better position for me to conceive because I also have a tipped utuerus that they discovered that I had with my first child. Has anyone else ever heard of the "right" position for conceiving? Let me know. Chantal I am thinking about you alot...hugs to you. Keep me updated as something has to break for us soon! Thanks girls!

paulam - April 10th, 2007 11:34 PM

Hello Ladies. Chantal, sorry to hear about the bfn...I love the "Bring it On" attitude. I know how it is when you want to be pregnant and you just want to beat the crap out of your period to make it go away. Jonelle, I've heard that the doggy style position works wonders when you have a tilted uterus..good luck. Well, my husband is traveling for work. He left on Monday and we made sure to "get busy" late Sunday night. According to my opk's I didn't ovulate until today or later tonight. So, I'm praying that we had some of those little girl spermies..sticking around waiting for an egg...i heard they live longer :0). Baby dust everyone!

jonelle - April 11th, 2007 9:10 AM

Paulam...thanks for the positive feedback on the whole doggy style thing:) You are too funny...but I am hoping that it is my fix for this problem of not being able to get pregnant. I think that I am more worried the second time around because it took us only four months for my son with no prometrium until after I got pregnant. Now I am on my 6th month with prometrium and nothing. So I am trying to stay positive and getting busy like a girl should do! They never new I had a tipped uterus until I got a sono for my son. So I will do whatever it takes to keep those little boys and girls swimming in the right direction! Oh...here's another question: do you ever encounter the problem of alot of "stuff" coming out right after sex when the guy pulls out? My husband (who is in the medical field...ER/Trauma) reminds me that it is all up there and that is the leftover, but I am concerned that nothing went in! If anyone has this problem let me know so that I won't feel compelled to get a wine cork and stick it in! Keep in touch and continued luck to all!

Chantal - April 11th, 2007 9:38 AM

Hi Jonelle; you have me laughing so hard right now! I too have a tilted uterus and thought that missionary was the best when trying to conceive but I'm so excited to hear that it works better doing it doggy cuz' I just love the fact that we'll have some variety now! yay!!!! I also have a lot of stuff that leak immediately out; even if my husband tries to stay in as long as he can. I always get so upset and tell him that there all swimming in the wrong direction. I did a little bit of research on that and the initial first few SHOTS are the important ones. Whatever comes out afterwards is just residue. No worries Jonelle; there should be lot's that make it in there. So, I now have an appointment for a mammogram and blood work to check my prolactin again this coming Friday! I was shocked to find out that they were doing all this so soon but I guess they don't screw around with these kinds of things! I also have an appointment booked to see the Doc at the Fertility Clinic again to discuss IVF. Eventhough he tells me I am not a good candidate I'm going to DEMAND it....besides it's my money if they don't want it; I'll go to the States. Hopefully, I will have to cancel that appointment in May because it will happen this time! Hope your having fun Jonelle *wink* and good luck with your surge test today! And to all the other wonderful girls, Minkey and Paulam and Amberlysmom.....big thanks and hugs for your words of encouragement. By the way...Minkey...your getting close there mama! 39 weeks now!!! CONGRATS!!!

Amberlys Mom - April 11th, 2007 11:49 AM

Oh my girls, you all are so silly! Chantel, I am so sorry this wasnt your month, I kept checkin on monday! But soon you will be busy as Jonelle again!!! OMG i cant believe you guys have tilted uterus also! I have a high and tilted one, and definitly DO IT DOGGY!! That was my docs advice. Then right away get them legs together and have the hub hold them high in the air!! With the butt pillow, mind you! Hey Its the only way I can even get preggy!! So have fun in another month of baby making girls!! Spring is a good time for baby making... I got to the doc next wednesday and find out what I am having!!! Crosss your fingers for us all....

bally280 - April 11th, 2007 12:09 PM

Hi all,
I have been following your conversations for a few weeks now, but have only ever posted once. I thought I would reply to Jonelle's comment re 'loads of stuff coming out.' I conceived three months in a row, all miscarrying at 5/6/7 weeks. Each time i conceived there was loads of stuff that comes out afterward, what is needed goes right in - so don't worry about that! Also, tilted uterus info my friend got was that doggy style is the way forward. Just thought I would share my info with you all. Im waiting for my blood tests to come back for clotting, chromosome etc etc and am hopefully going to demand prometrium as i am convinced my miscarriages are due to hormonal imbalances - i never ever have PMT or pain with my periods therefore I reckon i am not producing enough progesterone to thicken the lining of the uterus to prepare it for implantation. Anyway, good luck to everyone. x

lori9959 - April 11th, 2007 1:14 PM

Hi this is my first time. I am 8 weeks pregnant and a week ago I started bleeding heavy. My doctor put me on 400 milligrams of Prometrium a day to help control the bleeding, but I am still spotting and now I am starting to cramp. You girls seem to know alot about this drug does this seem normal? do you still think that there is a risk that the Prometrium is not working? any help would be greatly appreciated

minkey - April 11th, 2007 1:25 PM

bally280 - definitely demand the prometrium; if you're miscarrying b/w 5 and 7 weeks -- it sounds like you're a classic case of having low progesterone. Did your docs ever run a pathology report on your miscarried embryos? Because if they consistently come back as healthy (i.e. there was nothing otherwise wrong with the pregnancy), then that would definitely seem like progesterone is the issue. If you fear your hormones in general are out of balance - you might try accupuncture? I had a girlfriend whose hormones were all out of whack and she did accupuncture for a month or so and whammo - pregnant! And it stuck. lori9959 - sounds like you're on an aggressive dose of Prometrium; most of us take around 200 mg/day, so you've got double that amount, which sounds like your doctor is being very proactive -- a good thing! Has the bleeding slowed/decreased since you've been on prometrium? If so, that's a good sign, too. Have you had your progesterone level checked since you started the prometrium? If not, definitely demand a test; it's a simple blood test. If your progesterone level is above 11 or so, you're probably good to go; the closer your level is to 20 or 20+ is ideal, but you can definitely hold a pregnancy if your level is in the teens. Good luck to both of you!

bally280 - April 11th, 2007 4:07 PM

minkey, thanks for your reply. you've given me the confidence to demand it. ive mentioned it numerous times to 3 midwifes and one GP and all have given me the brush off, one midwife even said they couldn't measure it before i got pregnant - think she was overwhelmed by the amount i knew and all the questions. no embryos were ever examined as i refused the D & C the 3rd time and the other 2 were so early they said nothing would be there. i am so sure nothing was wrong with them as i had a scan at 6weeks and although there was development it wasn't enough and it slowly decreased till it stopped. it seems strange its always around the same time. think ill also look into acupuncture too. thanks for the advice. good luck to all. xx
