Hello everyone!! This is the first time I write in a forum so this is going to be a little long... Sorry :) My husband and I have been trying to have a baby since 1 year ago. Last August we got pregnant but I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks. The doctor ordered hcg and progesterone levels and the progesterone was extremely low. After waiting 3 months, we started to try again and got pregnant. This time I did the tests (hcg and progesterone) immediately after I found out at 3 1/2 weeks and both tests were ok. I took the tests again before having my first prenatal visit at 5 weeks and to my surprise, the progesterone had dropped from 26 to 14!!!!!!!! This decrease was most likely due to Luteal Phase Deficiency where the corpus luteum (which is what is left behind in the ovary after the egg is released during ovulation) is supposed to secrete the hormone progesterone to sustain the pregnancy until the 12th week when the placenta takes over. If there is a problem with the progesterone levels, the baby is not able to implant itself in the endometrium (which is the inside lining of the uterus) and thus a miscarriage occurs. If I had waited to do the tests next week, I would most likely have had another miscarriage and the diagnosis would have not been done. My doc started me on Prometrium 200mg orally daily for 1 week and will reevaluate the dosage after she sees my new labs next week. Even though we are very exited about the baby, we are still waiting to see if the Prometrium increases my progesterone levels. We have our fingers crossed..... I hope this information helps someone as this forum helped me see that I am not alone in this quest. Thank you!!!!
PS- This is my 3rd day on Prometrium and today I felt dizzy as well…

Hi there. I found our a week ago, we were prego. I have had 2 miscarriages in the past year and we are in fear that we are loosing the battle with this one too. I was put on Prometrium 200 nightly and started that 4 days ago. I started bleeding over the weekend and went and took another blood test today. I am waiting for the results. It is driving me nuts. Any words of wisdom would be greatly helpful.

Going crazy.

Hello katramoz, I had a miscarriage last Sept. and now I am pregnant again 5 1/2 weeks. My doc started me in Prometrium 4 days ago as well and she adviced me not to have sex, orgasms, or do any lifting (in other words, complete bedrest) until she could see the baby's gestational sac and maybe heartbeat next week by pelvic ultrasound. She did not perform a pelvic exam or intravaginal ultrasound because she did not want to manipulate my cervix in any way in order to avoid any contraction of the uterus that would trigger bleeding. I advice you to remain calm, refrain from the above activities, and try to remain positive. I hope this can help and that everything turns out fine.

Hi. We are 6 weeks pregnant after 3 miscarriagesand 1 IVF cycle that was terminated. My Dr. put us on Prometrium suppositories. we are supposed to take 2 tablets at 100 mg each, twice a day for the next 6 weeks. I only inserted 1 today and after a few hours I experienced mild cramps similar to menstral cramps. I called my Dr.and she said to continue but said that I could stop if I felt too bad. Has anybody else had similar cramps?
Also one website that describes the side effects lists cramping as one but also says to stop taking if pregnant. I'm confused!!

I just found out I was pregnant on Wednesday by a blood test and my doctor put me on prometrium twice a day as I am on vacation this week and cannot get additionally bloodwork until next week. Does anyone know why she would have done this if my hormone levels were normal?

My doctor prescribed me prometrium to start my period, so i took the prometrium 100mg once a day for 10days. Took a pregnancy test before i started the prometrium it was neg, i started takin prometrium oct 7, never got my period. Took a hpt yesterday mornin it was postive. Im soo worried that me taking the prometrium before i realized i was preg could now affect my baby. Could someone give me some insight about this.

Erica, really don't worry about it, prometrium is also something they prescribe during pregnancy in order to help you to maintain the pregnancy. I was prescribed it and took it up until 14 weeks. However I took it vaginally. But orally or vaginally doesn't make a difference. Really don't let it bother you. It is just a hormone boster and that hormone is very important to the pregnancy. You will be fine.
