Congrats to all who are pregnant!! But please help a fellow "TTC'er" out...I've recently been laced on 200mg of Prometrium for Luteal Phase Defect (cycle is 26 days w/O on day 18). Apparently I dont' have enough progesterone to a) get pregnant and b) stay pregnant...has anyone been in a similiar situation that can offer advice?? How long did it take to get pregnant after taking the prometrium? My cycle is as consistent as the sun rising and setting - which means I'm ovulating, right?? Any help or words of advise would sure be welcomed....

Hey everyone! I was on clomid because I found out I don't always release the egg. I had 5 mature eggs and was given a hcg shot on day 15 of my cycle. Then I was given an IUI the following day. I took a blood test at the doctors office and my hcg was low, but it was 16 days since the shot. They felt it was a pregnancy trying. They gave me 100 mg of prometrium (progesterone) twice daily and I have to come back on Monday (3 days later). Can someone tell me what that is about? Did the clomid cause me to have low progesterone? Is it to keep me from loosing the baby or to help the hCG levels rise? I'm new to all this!

I had a similar situation. My beta was low but high enough for them to know I fertilized and we werent sure what was going on. I went back 2 days later and my hcg level dropped. I had a chemical pregnancy (fertilization and implantation that didnt stick -when it implants is when it sends off the hcg). I was on progesterone suppositories 2x/day so if you are going to hold it you would hold it but if its not meant to be you wont. You wont be able to control it.Hope for the best and baby glue for you. clomid should have had no bearing on your progesterone but it can thin your lining.

I took it for about 6 weeks, until week 12. (I am in week 36 now.) Mine was pill form. I have also heard if you take it right after delivery it helps your hormones not to plunge so fast and helps prevent post partum depression.

Hey - I am pregnant as well, I've been using the progesterone suppositories for quite a few months now hoping that I might be pregnant and help sustain it. Well I am pregnant and I've been using them now for two weeks, so far so good. Both HCG and Progesterone rising properly....going in for first sono this Friday!! Good luck!! I have a had a few miscarriages as well and really praying that these suppositories will help do the trick.

I found out I was pregnant on June 18, 2005. I went to the doctor on July 8 and was judged to be 6 weeks and 5 days along. I began to miscarry on July 27 and had a D&C on Aug 2. Foetal death was measured (a crown to rump measurement was taken) as 7 weeks and 2 days. I was surprised the the actual physical symptoms of the miscarriage took so long to show up. I am pregnant again - this time 6 weeks and 1 day as of today and I was put on Prometrium as of yesterday due to a slightly low progesterone level. I have now taken 3 doses and have been able to keep the expected nausea at bay with continuous nibbles instead of 3 square meals. But the fatigue is beginning to hit. For all of you verterans - does it get better or will it be like this for the duration of the course of medication?
Also - I wondered if maybe I am scerwing with nature? Am I "holding" a pregnancy that should otherwise naturally terminated?

bp - December 2nd, 2005 12:29 PM

We have been TTC for 6 months now and my doctor put me on Prometrium because they suspect I have PCOS. Now I am 6 days late but I've heard that Prometrium can delay your period. I have had a neg. hpt so I'm waiting a few days and then trying again. I'm hoping that I'm pregnant, but I'm scared that I will be disappointed. Any thoughts?

Jeannie - December 2nd, 2005 3:07 PM

Dear bp - I was also put on prometrium by my dr. 200mg once a day before I went to bed. I started taking it this cycle and have been on it 14 days as of today. The dr. told me it will delay my period and IF i got to day 34 w/o getting my period to take a test, but not to be dissapointed if AF did show up. He said it could take a few cycles to get the prometrium into your system. I should have gotten my period on 11/24 - and as of this morning it's still no where in sight. I took a pg test and it came up positive!! Don't get disheartened yet - I waited until 9 days after AF was due befor taking it - fearing i would be dissapointed. My advice - call your dr. but keep taking the prometrium until you are told to stop by the dr. Incidentally, did you take your HPT first thing in the morning? That is supposedly when the concentration of the hormone needed to detect that you are pg is the highest. Stay positive!!!

liz - December 2nd, 2005 3:29 PM

um

bp - December 2nd, 2005 9:12 PM

Jeannie- Thanks for your message. I did take the test first thing in the morning hoping that would make a difference. I also spoke to my doctor and she told me to test again on Sunday, 7 days after AF was due. If the test is still negative she wants me to come in to have a blood test. I just didn't realize that Prometrium could delay things so I was getting really excited that things had finally worked. Now I'm trying to prepare myself just in case. Congrats to you!!!

Lauren, I am kinda in the same boat too. I miscarried in March and never found out exact cause. Now pregnant again started spotting 5th week at 6th week (still spotting) dr gave me progesterone (200 mg each dose) two times a day. Spotting very minimal (once a day) been taking them since Thurs. I hope too I am not holding on to something that I shouldn't, but then I read success stories of those that have taken them and have healthy babies. Anyone out there to support Lauren and I. My Prog was ar 13.2. Is that dangerous from anyone's experience? How about your Lauren, what is your level?

Di - December 7th, 2005 9:47 PM

I had a miscarriage 7 months ago and just found out that I am pregnant again. I went for bld wk and my progesterone is borderline low(12) so doc put me on Prometrium 200mg daily I start it tonight im nervous and I hope that it works i have read better things about the vaginal suppositories and injections. Any help would be appreciated.

breana - December 13th, 2005 12:36 AM

i had two miscarriages due to low progesterone levels i am now 10 weeks along and on 100mg prometrium 3x a day this is the farthest ive gone. I feel fine and everything is growing normally and my baby has a strong heart beat so far which ive been able to see for myself 3x. i definately believe prometrium has gotten me here
