I miscarried in 02 and was pregnant again in Feb of 03. My husband and I had tried unsuccefully for months to conceive, and I believe Prometrium did the trick. I am now 12 week with our 2nd and I believe Prometrium has a lot to do with it |

Breana and se, do you know what your levels were? Had a second u/s on Monday and everything looked fine. Dr. said no need to take blood again until next month and that levels at this point wont make a difference and it is up to nature. Still taking Prog 2x a day at 200 mg each dose till at least 14 weeks. Do you still find yourself every once in a while (not every day) with minor spot discharge? I have once in a while ..only when wiping. I was told this is normal. Any thoughts? |

Hello, I started taking PROMETRIUM on 05/08/2006, can someone tell me if I can get pregnant? I've had 1 miscarriage when I was 19 yrs old and I'm now 32 and have not been pregnant. My doctor gave me RX b/c of freq periods, I take 200 mg 1x day. It's now wednesday and I have not experienced being tired or upset stomach. |

I stopped Prometrium after negative blood test 8 days ago, but AF doesn't show up. My nurse told me to have another blood test tomorrow . She just said that my progesterone was too high that I could not have period. She avoid to say that I may be pregnant. Anyone have any experience about that? |

well when i was 4 weeks preg, the dr. put me on prochieve 8% cream, it is inserted vaginally with prefilled applicators 90mg everyday for first 12 weeks at bedtime. i worked very well i must say, i too had a history of m/c 2 last year 2005. i am now 13 weeks 6 days pregnant again and everyting seems great. i heard my baby's heartbeat at 10 weeks, and seen my baby on the u/s at 6 weeks and saw the heartbeat too. i am very impressed they have a medicine that can actually help hold an pregnancy. prochieve is the same a prometrium i believe, but not sure.you should be okay as long as you take it everyday as ordered. |

~m~: My doctor just put me on 200mg Prometrium once per day, as well -- for more or less the same reasons: I miscarried this past June at 9 weeks (7 weeks since conception). As soon as he found out I was pregnant this time (at 3 weeks since conception), he tested my progesterone level. It was 10, which is apparently the very bottom level of what's still acceptable; most doctors like the number to be 14-20. So he put me on Prometrium and I am electing to use the pill as a suppository. I know it sounds totally bizarre to shove a pill you'd normally be swallowing up your vaginal canal like a tampon -- but I swear by this method after reading so many other women on this forum (thank God for this forum!) and on other online sites say that the suppository/vaginal method is more effective than the oral method. If you take it orally, your liver processes it and the half-life is 4 minutes. Whereas, if you use it as a suppository, you're literally getting it directly to the cervix and then the placenta. This may sound insane, but my doctor told me I could take it orally OR vaginally -- ask yours to confirm, but the spotting I had been having this time around immediately disappeared after ONE vaginal dose of Prometrium! Good luck with your pregnancy and try not to worry; I know it's hard not to, after even just one miscarriage. |

i have never had a miscarriage but the doc put me on prometrium 200mg 3x a day until my tests resulsts come back tomorrow. i just got a + hpt on thursday and they prescribed this on friday since i went in friday to have a beta hcg and progesterone levels. they said that since the results would not be in until monday they wanted me to take them because they didnt want to take any chances. they said progesterone was very important in the early pregnancy and if it was too low they didnt want to wait until monday to find out. i have no side effects other than it makes me sweat alot and it turns my urine orange. |

I am on day 17 of my IVF cylce. They put three embryos back and I could sware two implanted. I am on progesterone and have been bleeding lightly and slight cramps since Wednesday. Nothing was passed or the cramping seemed to stay away from the areas where I think emryos implanted. The bleeding is stopping today. What are signs of a misscarriage even if we are on prometrium? |

JanaKM: When I had my miscarriage, I actually bled for an entire month before entirely miscarrying. They didn't think I was miscarrying because my cervix wasn't dialated. So if your cervix is dialated, that is a sure sign of miscarriage. Also, I had cramping almost within my vaginal walls -- very, very low in the pubic area, not higher up where you might have normal period cramps. And the sure give away was the sheer amount of blood being passed -- I literally passed plugs of blood every 20 minutes for 2 hours. The amount of blood in the toilet was horrifying; it looked like a war zone. I realized that that was the miscarriage -- the sheer volume of blood was about 100x more than the spot bleeding I'd had for the prior month. Good luck and hang in there! I didn't have IVF so am not sure what extra circumstances come with that. Just wanted to share my miscarriage symptoms in case they're helpful. |

Thanks Minkey... I appreciate you sharing. How do you know if your cervix is dialated? Also were you on Prometrium? I want to know if symptoms of miscarriage are any differnt when on Pro... |

No, unfortunately I was not on prometrium when I miscarried (I'm convinced that's the reason I did miscarry!). I'm now just going off of it because I made it through the first trimester. But if you're carrying multiples, perhaps it is more common to have bleeding anyway? That's what I was told when I was bleeding in my first pregnancy -- that I could be carrying multiples and either one wasn't sticking or one was just implanting more heavily than another. And on the cervical dialation -- only my doctor could see the dialated cervix when I went to see him about the bleeding. Wasn't dialated the first 8 weeks, and then apparently did dialate during the actual miscarriage. |

Thank you all for your input about Prometrium. I was ready to take it awhile back (I've had 2 m/c and no children) and then I did some research into it and found out there were risks to the fetus and danger of cancer (I think for the older women who were taking it). I was scared to take it and stopped after 2 pills- espeically since it was making me dizzy and "weird" during the work day. This was months ago, and now I've found out that I'm pregnant but spotting again and experiencing some cramping. It's very scary. But after reading this site, I've decided to start the Prometrium (at least until my specialist appointment 5 days from now). My gyno prescribed 200 mg 1x/day. Has anyone heard about the risks of taking Prometrium? |

Hi melaniepeachy: I've continued to research/read about Prometrium during the first trimeseter, and have met/talked with many women who have used it in every pregnancy and have perfectly normal children. There are slight risks, but NO clinical studies have ever been done on pregnant women using Prometrium during pregnancy. I read there is a risk of cleft palate or club foot in the baby; I'd rather have a baby with those slight abnormalities than not have a baby at all. I just had my 19 week ultrasound and our baby boy so far looks perfectly normal; I stopped taking Prometrium (200mg once/day, taken as suppository) at my 13th week. If you feel uncomfortable with Prometrium, consider using a natural progetserone cream instead. One place that sells it online is a natural, organic pharmacy based in Aurora, Illinois called The Compounder. Just google The Compounder. That website also has an excellent pro-progesterone during pregnancy article worth reading. Good luck! I stopped spotting after ONE dose of Prometrium; it works! |

I am at 5 wks & had blood tests last wk because of some light brown spotting. My progesterone levels went from 9.6 to 10.4, & my HCG level for 150 to 469 in 4 days. They weren't happy that my progesterone hadn't gone up much & my HCG levels weren't doubling so they put me on Prometrium 100mg 2X a day. They also took blood when they gave the prescription and my Progesterone level went down to 7.6 but my HCG went up to 747 (2 days after the levels were at 10.6 P and 469 HCG). I started taking the medicine that day and am due to have my blood tested again tomorrow - 2 days later. Has anyone had their Progesterone levels go backward before they were put on Prometrium and had a healthy pregnancy? All the signs are very positive on this site about the drug, but I am wondering if anyone went backwards a little before they were on it... It is my first pregnancy, and I am kind of worried… THANKS! |
