I am at 5 wks & had blood tests last wk because of some light brown spotting. My progesterone levels went from 9.6 to 10.4, & my HCG level for 150 to 469 in 4 days. They weren't happy that my progesterone hadn't gone up much & my HCG levels weren't doubling so they put me on Prometrium 100mg 2X a day. They also took blood when they gave the prescription and my Progesterone level went down to 7.6 but my HCG went up to 747 (2 days after the levels were at 10.6 P and 469 HCG). I started taking the medicine that day and am due to have my blood tested again tomorrow - 2 days later. Has anyone had their Progesterone levels go backward before they were put on Prometrium and had a healthy pregnancy? All the signs are very positive on this site about the drug, but I am wondering if anyone went backwards a little before they were on it... It is my first pregnancy, and I am kind of worried… THANKS!

Hello! I'm hoping that Prometrium will be OUR answer also! After 6 miscarriages and 7 years of trying, I'm now 33; had surgery to repair my septum uterus, we find out that my lining is extremely thin. I am on an extremely high dose initiating 2 bullets 3 x day starting 3 days after ovulation. We have intercourse every 2 days from day 8 to day 23. This will be our second month with this method. Fertility Clinic Doc. said that we were catching the pregnancy too late (missed period was too late). Also the doc. said my IRON was extremely low. I'm now taking Palafer pre-natal supplements. Wondering if anyone had this issue too. When you think about it...it makes sense. Thin lining and low iron makes for low circulation; not properly nurishing my uterus might be why it's so thin. So frustrated in trying to find the reason why I can't seem to maintain the pregnancy. Praying that this will work; So happy to hear happy and successful stories here!

I am back and happy to report I am 10 weeks now. After two days on Prometrium, my hormone levels went from 7.6 to 37!- Progesterone and 747 to 1500 - HCG. We saw the heart beat at 7 weeks and we had another visit at 9 weeks and the doctor said everything looked perfect. I have another ultrasound at 12 weeks and if everything is okay I should be off of prometrium then. Keep your fingers crossed that everything turns out okay. I am thankful for this drug, because if I didn't get on it when I did I would have miscarried for sure.

Chantal,

You sound just like me. I just turned 34 in December and I've already had 6 miscarriages. I'm now 7 weeks... and I usually lose them about now, so I'm just itching for ultrasound this coming Tue, when I'll be 8 weeks. I'm taking Heparin injections this time round, twice a day for the whole pregnancy, and I'm sooo hoping they work!!

Chantal - January 15th, 2007 9:14 AM

Hi Nic,
Are you also taking Prometrium? You're gonna make it this time! I know what it's like to be afraid because I usually miscarry at the same time. I'm not taking Heparin although they have put me on (preconceptual ASA) 81mg aspirin/ 1 a day. Is the Heparin to thin your blood also? Let me know how you are progressing! You're in my thoughts!

nic - January 15th, 2007 12:26 PM

Hi Chantal,

Yes, I take progesterone - I've been taking it for about a year or so now and it hasn't stopped me miscarrying in the past but now that I'm taking Metformin and Heparin I have higher hopes. I also take baby aspirin - have been taking it for a year or longer now. The Heparin is an anti-coagulant and as I understand it, if your miscarrying problem is due to an auto-immune problem, it can help. Fingers crossed! I'm having my 8 week ultrasound tomorrow so I'm dying to know if the bean is still alive... I've never lasted more than 7.5 weeks, so it's torture to wait.

Chantal - January 15th, 2007 12:35 PM

Hi again Nic! Wow 1 year eh? I was on the bullets with my last miscarriage too but we were starting it too late. You must be doing the same thing as me then; starting them 3 days after you ovulate? I'll have to look up Metformin (never heard of it!). I'm undetermined but for some reason I'm feeling really positive this time with the changes I've made with nutrition and vitamins. I have a follow up apointm. today to get more bullets. I can't wait to hear from you tomorrow...it's so wonderful to chat with someone who's been undergoing the same things. Good luck with your ultrasound; My fingers and toes are crossed for you! *Hugs*

Thanks for the good luck wishes, Chantal! I will definitely post back here with my U/S results tomorrow. Yes, I take the bullets 3 days after ovulation. The Metformin is a very common treatment for PCOS patients. I'm Type 1 diabetic too and it really helps my blood sugar levels, even though I take insulin as well. If you look up PCOS and Metformin you're bound to find lots of info.

hey all, Just wanted to give some hope for my fellow Prometrium takers!! I already have 2 kids, but when I tried for a third I kept miscarrying. After 2 miscarrages back to back, they decided to put me on prometrium when I got pregnant this time. With the other 2 I never made it to 6 weeks, but since the Prometrium and the baby asprin, I have made it to 7 weeks and I had a heart beat the other day!!! With the other two, I miscarried before I ever saw one. So there is hope. I have heard once you get that heart beat, you are pretty safe. So dont doubt taking it, its worth it!!!

nic - January 19th, 2007 2:46 AM

My bean is still alive at 8 weeks! Woo hoo!!

snickelfritz - January 19th, 2007 10:01 AM

I was put on Prometrium when they discovered my low progesterone with pg #2. I was on 200 mg three times a day. Are you taking it orally or vaginally? I've heard several success stories for ladies who have hx of early miscarriages. It didn't work for me and I ended up m/c anyway, but my m/c are later, so progesterone isn't really the issue. My progesterone was low because I was m/c... I didn't m/c because my progesterone was low. Does that make sense? It can be a bit yucky if you insert it vaginally, but it's worth it if it helps your pg stick! GL!

CONGRATS Nic!!! I knew things would work out! I'm now on day 19. I think I'll start prometrium tonight. So frustrating to have NO guidance. I ovulate late so, I'm thinking I better start now incase I have a little bean too! Cross your fingers for us...I'm so happy for you!

nic - January 23rd, 2007 4:24 PM

Chantal - thank you. But you should be careful taking prometrium/progesterone. If you take it before you ovulate, or even just one day after you ovulate, you can wreck your chances of conceiving!!! You should be doing OPKs to determine when you ovulate, than start the progesterone 3 days after ovulation.

Chantal - January 23rd, 2007 4:27 PM

Thanks for reminding me of all that...so, much information lately! I'll go buy another kit tonight. They don't seem to give me a bright line EVER for some reason! So, if I don't see a line at all means I'm done ovulating and then I should start the prometrium right?

nic - January 23rd, 2007 4:29 PM

Yup, that's what I'd do. Sometimes it just depends on how concentrated your urine it is... I don't like OPKs because there's too much subjective stuff. I just want a 'yes' or 'no' answer!! Maybe in 20 years or so they'll be better... but then all of us will be done trying by then!!!

Chantal - January 23rd, 2007 4:32 PM

OK. I'll stop on my way home. I started painting a mural (you know what they say...build it and it will come!) It keeps me happy and thinking good thoughts!
