Anyone get pregnant on the pill? And by that, I mean did anyone get pregnant who religiously took the pill on time every day? Particularly a progestrin-only pill?

I've never met anyone who got pregnant while taking the pill exactly as instruced, although I wonder how many of us do that. What I can tell you is that I got pregnant on the pill when I missed one and doubled up the next day. The scary fact is that many women do this all of the time and think it won't happen to them. Trust me I take my pill religiously and keep the morning after pill in a drawer just in case we have an accident like that again. I think it's less than a one percent chance you'll get pregnant by taking you pill the right way.

Yes!!! I religiously took the pill and got pregnant twice on two different strength pills!!!! My aunt also got pregnant twice on the pill as well as my sister with one of her children! It must be a genetic weakness for us!!! I can't remember what pill I was on the first time I got pregnant but the second time I was on Alesse.

Yes, I got pregnant on Estro-step Fe and didn't even know until I kept feeling sick because I was still taking my pills

So, here's the thing...I don't get a period on this pill, so how would I know if I was pregnant?

clg - May 27th, 2005 9:43 PM

I would just look out for symptoms. If you think you might be pregnant, take a test or call your doctor.

Saird - May 27th, 2005 9:43 PM

That was pretty vague, I should explain. I did get a period on the pill for the first 5 months, then I stopped getting it. Is that normal?

clg - May 27th, 2005 10:08 PM

Sorry, I misunderstood. Yes, I would definitely take a test. I'm not really familiar with the progestrin-only pills, it may or may not be normal. I would also maybe ask your doc or the nurse at the doc's if it is okay to not have one. Good luck and let us know how things work out!

Anyone else just not get a period on a progestrin only BC pill?

I have been on the pill for 7 years, and I often miss pills & double up the next day, thankfully I have never become pregnant. I watched a show the other day that said they have found the pill to be less effective on overweight women, my doctor never mentioned this.

I have been a bit concerned lately about becoming pregnant while on the pill & not knowing it. I have heard that many women will continue to have periods as long as they take the pills. My periods have been very short the last few months, I have been very tired, had a constant problem with diarrhea, I had a light pink discharge a couple of times, and my emotions have been out of control (crying, yelling, crying, yelling). I don't remember feeling so much rage about stupid things since puberty!!! I took a test a few months ago & it came back negative. My husband says I am paranoid. Does anyone know the effect of birth control pills on a developing baby?

clg - June 3rd, 2005 8:22 AM

klm- I am not sure what the effects on an unborn child are. However, neither of the two children I conceived while on the pill, had any problems or defects! Maybe I just got lucky, I don't know. As far as the emotions go, they could be a sign. That is one of the signs I normally get when I am pregnant. Then again, I also get pms really bad! I am pregnant right now and my emotions have been intense! Also, your pill could be too strong? It's hard to say.

I am on the pill right now and the for the first time in 2 years I missed a period. I went to the doctor and had a pregnancy test done. It came out negative. I was told to retest in two weeks just to be sure. I asked all the questions that are posted here on the board so I thought I would tell you guys what my doctor told me.
- the pill will NOT affect a developing fetus
- yes you can get pregnant while on the pill but it is VERY rare
- you can miss a period while on the pill and still not be pregnant. In fact it is very common. I was told that sometimes the level of estrogen was not enough to produce a thick enough lining to shed. Remember a pill period is a fake period to begin with.
- And lastly, the moodyness and tireness can be a causation of many different factors (i.e., nutrition, stress, ect.)
Its funny what your body will do when you start to think a certain way. You feel things that may infact be very common and not due to a pregnancy.

Anyway...hope this was helpful

I was on the pill Ovcan and now am 13w. I never missed a pill took at the same time and have been on it for 5 years. I took the pill for a month not knowing I was pg. My Dr said there is no harm to my baby. She even said she would feel comfortable putting me back on the pill after the baby is born.

Kris - June 8th, 2005 9:27 PM

Jessie- did any of your preg. test come back negative? I supposed to take one again on Friday to see if I am infact pregnant. Did you have any symtoms of being pregnant?

Holly - June 13th, 2005 10:11 AM

Yes, I did I'm only 19 and pregnant with my first child. I took my birth control everyday same time, and had my period for the first two months of pregnancy. I had no idea.

I have been on ortho tri cyclen lo. i haven't had any pms symptoms since i started taking them three months ago. I stopped taking my pills b/c i think i might be pregnant. My breasts are getting tender and i had slight spotting today once but then it was gone. Is this a result of going off the pill or could i be pregnant? I have other symptoms like aversions to food i love, cravings, and being hungry all the time. Could someone help me out?
