Hey L:adies...I'm new to this thread and I smoke about 3-5 cigs a day. I promised my husband that I would quit once we found out we were pg. This has not happened yet and he's quite disappointed. Does anyone know of a website that we can go on that shows the defects smoking can cause (not that we really want to think about that, but it is a factor) -- I'm sure it would help us all quit. A friend of mine smoked right up til her 1st u/s...that's when it hit her that there was a little person inside her depending on her...maybe that's what will do it for me?? |

you know i have to tell you all that it is not a great idea to quit cold turkey while pregnant due to that thows your body into stress and that is not good...even the doc will tell you that so stop beating yourself up over a few cigs here and there I would say don't go out a smoke a carton a day but a few is not so bad ( : |

Thanks everyone for your support, it is not easy and i just keep putting it off now. Like today is my birthday so I know I am going to have a drink and I won't enjoy a drink without a smoke. Next week is my boyfriends birthday and the same thing, another drink therefore a smoke and then all the x-mas parties, when will it ever end. I would like to do it as a new years resolution but 80% of those fail because people set their expectations too high and try to stop so many things. As rl said with it causing too much stress I have to admit it is true. On m first appointment with my midwife I had to do a test that measures your probability to have post natal depression and all because I had quit smoking that day and I sometimes get upset that I am losing my perfect petite shape due to pregnancy I score very high and she wanted to refer me to a post natal depression counseller, I told her to get stuffed but I guess it does show that quitting smoking is a really stressful thing. Maybe I should rename this post, the pregnant and too scared to quit smoking club hehehe. Maybe I will start really cutting down again since I am back up to 10 a day. I am glad you are back babymakes5, I hope things start looking better for you soon, it is no fun having stress that you have no control over, I myself am dealing with a few other things at the moment but I have tried to forget about them as much as possible and try to distract myself with something different. Hope everyone is having a great day!! |

Sarebare-HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Yeah...not a good day to quit for sure. I seem to be creeping back up to about 7 a day now. And thanks, too everyone for the support. I'm so glad that people are responding with support-it's too bad we're still smoking and don't have anything good to report :) I like your idea of changing the name, Sarebare-LOL Oh well, I keep telling myself...in time, when it's right I'll quit. Tomorrow I find out news on whether or not we'll have a place to live (long story-very depressing). I told myself if we get this new place I'd quit (been doing a lot of praying--I had to offer something in return-LOL) Which also means we'd be moving Jan 1st-not so much fun in this Wisconsin weather. Anyways, I'm babbling, but I agree with the stress, lately I've had so much of it lately I'm a little worried about the bean-so hopefully the smoking is calming me down enough for him/her too. This is the only place I've been posting-feel bad to have deserted my other friends but hopefully it's just temporary and tomorrow will have good news-I hope...later everyone and chin up! |

How's everyone doing? I got the good news that we got the new place to move into so we move on Jan 1st. I'm so glad that stress is over, now I have the stress of packing and moving :) After that, I'm going to try my hardest to quit. I told myself if we got the new place I wouldn't smoke there--good to start off new habits in a new place. Out with the old and in with the New! So, how's everyone else doing? Sarebare-did you have a nice b-day? Hope all is well. |

Hi babymakes5, I am glad you got your house, my boyfriend and I had a drama with that as well. We were going to buy privatley from a friend of the family and have a fully furnished house as a result of the lady only taking what can fit in her car. Well a real estate agent caught wind of it and told her we were taking advantage of her so all the sudden he is her new friend and he is selling it for her. She does have a few issues with depression etc. So we are glad we don't have to worry about whether she will kill herself or anything when she leaves. So after another few weeks of house shopping and desperatly before the loan approval expired we found our house 1 week ago and move in on Jan 18. So we both have new houses! Yay! My Bday was good, we had a few people over on the weekend because my boyfriends bday is this week so we had a combined party and went to the club and I enjoyed my one beer and many cigs. I think I have decided to quit in the new year as well. I have a heap of painting that will be keeping my hands very preoccupied so it should be easy to quit then I hope. Well before I write a novel I better run. I am glad everything is better, How is everyone else doing? |

Well, I read on another post that Felisha had her baby girl on dec 10th (her due date of all dates). And the baby is healthy and doing fine. I'm relieved that the smoking didn't cause any problems. it sounds like she had an easy delivery. I'm hoping for the same! Counting down the days until we're in our new place. Can't wait and I'm hoping it'll make it easy to quit smoking since I'll be so busy unpacking and fixing the place up. Hope all is well with everyone-just thought I'd check in. I'm still at about 5 -7 a day... |

Hi babymakes5, I am glad Felishas baby was born healthy. I am still the same having up to 10 a day but the same as you just waiting to move, well still waiting for the loan to be approved. Good idea to check in so the post doesn't get lost... |

Hi Sarebare-daily post here. Wow, I've been reading that thread to European and Non-American women and holy cow is there some controversy there. Saw your post from yesterday and the response from someone that you should go to AA. Wow, I just think it's hilarious how some of these women go overboard in what their opinions are. Very entertaining. I say, to each his own...it's a battle that'll never have a winner. I had a beer the other night and I feel no guilt. If I have one tomorrow, no guilt. Anyways, I seem to be smoking more and more, I think knowing that I have to quit soon, I'm getting in as many as I can before than-what kind of backwards thinking is that??? LOL Hope all is well...and bottoms up! Cheers! |

Not judging, but keep this in mind: My grandmother smoked while pregnant with my dad, and he spent the first 10 years of his life in and out of the emergency room with severe asthma. That's all it took for me to not do it. |

I just realized that that probably came off very bit*$y. I am a smoker as well, so I'm definitely not trying to make anyone feel bad. |

No problem, cindernar, any information is worth hearing about in relations to smoking. I have older childer and did not smoke with any of them, and yet my middle one has been in and out of the ER most of his life (he's 12 now) as well, with asthma and allergies. I guess you just never know? I'm hoping to quit on Jan 1st when we plan on moving to a new place. That will leave (hopefully) 6 mos. of smoke-free air for my baby. :) You didn't mention how much your grandmother smoked during the pregnancy, do you happen to know? |

cindernar, that's the kind of stuff i need to hear actually. my stepdad said his mom smoked and drank hardcore with all 5 of her kids, then gave me 2 cigarettes! haha. that's the crap i dont want to hear, it gives me reasons to justify things in my head. |
