Years ago my mother had a child that was born with anninsephalie(sorry my spelling may be off). It is where the babys brain does not form and the skull does not close so they cannot live. I asked my doctor and she said it is a very uncommon thing but that i am at more risk that your average pregnant girl does anyone know how high the risk may be?

Anencephaly, or Trisomy 18, is a chromosomal disorder not a genetic disorder. Because your mother gave birth to a T18 baby doesn't mean you are at an increased risk for producing a child with T18. The odds, instead, become greater as you age and the ovum loses integrity. A simple bloodtest can tell if you baby is at low or high risk for this disorder. The bloodtest can't tell you if your baby has it or not, but your doctor can order an amnio if your results show a high risk. The amnio will confirm if your baby is or is not effected. You may want to express your concerns with your doctor and request the bloodtest as a starting point. Best wishes!
