Hi Guys, When I had my ultrasound for the 18-20 weeker.... I wanted to find out the gender but I discovered because I am in Canada that it wont happen...
Anyways, as I am watching the guy take all the pictures and what nots, one he took (and it was not the head because he had not made it that far) the typed out FEM which to me stands for Female....I was wondering if anyone has knowledge if that could stand for anything other than female? Or could that be the possible gender of my baby?
I feel like the baby is a boy, but I want a girl!
any imput?

I agree -- FEM would be femur. All of mine said boy or girl --- usually with an arrow pointing and saying Girl parts or Boy parts. Why will they not tell you gender in Canada?

I think it's just some places in Canada that won't do it. I live in BC and the doctors had no hesitation when I told them I wanted to know the sex (I had to go for 2 ultra-sounds; the 20-week and a follow up 6 weeks later). Did they tell you they're not supposed to or just that they didn't know. Because there have been some cases where the doctor said the wrong sex and they got sued, so maybe that's why some doctors don't like to say anything.

Why won't they tell you? I'm from the US and I have never heard of that. It probably is femur. Wow, you can sue from being told the wrong gender? It's hard to see those things and I thought that it was just an educated guess. Sounds kind of crazy but I guess crazy things are everywhere you go.

Im not to sure why they can not, but I was told it is law in Ontario because they had way to many wrong guesses... Real bummer because I want to know..

FEM is - Finite Element Model - Finite Element analysis is useful for interpolating tissue geometries between reference and deformed states. This is a common acronym used in all ultrasounds, not just pregnancy ultrasounds. This is how they determine if something is wrong with your baby.

FEM is for FEMUR because they were measuring the babies leg bone. That's important to determine the length, too short can indicate down's syndrome.

TO E- you are a retard, that is not what FEM means on an ultrasound.

J - maybe you need to do a SIMPLE google. LeeAnn, just ask them. FEM does not stand for femur. FEM is a friggin button on the ultrasound machine. J - you think it's the "femur" button? LMAO!!

I said this b/c I have done my share of tissue analyses using software, mainly ImagePro Plus, and I do not think it is femur.

so i just looked on google and alot of stuff came up with what E said. calling someone a retard is rude. i am going to call and find out because i want to know.

Well, it is different if it was Fem. You typed FEM, which has a different meaning than Fem. Which one was on the screen? Fem is femoral, while FEM is what I stated.
