I am 5 months pregnant. How does cat urine and feces affect the pregnancy? What is okay for me to do when it comes to the nasty cat box?

I always heard that cat urine and feces carries a deases that can cause birth defects in your unborn child. I have read a lot about avoiding the litter box.
