Spotting Instead Of Period = Pregnant?

I was due for my period 2 days ago, but I am only having a very slight amount of brown spotting. I had VERY sore breasts for about a week, but they seem better now. If you're pregnant, can you still have spotting at the time of your period? My HPT yesterday was negative. Frustrating!! Thanks for your imput!
