6 Month Old And A Fudgecicle

Well, I don't think any harm has been done but really it's not good to be feeding a 6 month old these things. Especially the Pepsi. That stuff is horrible for teeth especially baby teeth that doesn't have the enamel protection like adult teeth. I would advise your parents about this. Having a chocolate treat every now and then isn't a bit deal but try not to make a habit out of it. I stayed away from those things until my boys were at least 12 months old. My boys have never had pop (they are 12 months & 2.5 years old), but then we don't drink it ourselves. We don't buy it and it's not in the house. As a treat I give them diluted juice. It's either water or milk. My 2.5 year old also gets chocolate milk as a treat. |

my grandmother is always trying to sneak my kids little licks of things like that and it drives me crazy! At 6 months old especially! They are just starting on solids at that age - they don't need to get all that sugar in their little bodies. I'd just ask them nicely not to do it again - remind them how little they still are. Sometimes they "forget". Otherwise, don't sweat it too much - it won't harm them unless they are shoveling it in all the time. |

Micsmms, I don't think it's the end of the world that Laina has gotten these "treats" but it's definitely not good for her at this age. I'd definitely say something to the grandparents, because if you don't say anything about it now, it will be something else another time that you really will have an issue with. You're the parent, so you should decide what your child should and shouldn't be getting. Also, it's not just a matter of her teeth, but also what's in the products (can cause allergic reactions, make her feel sick, etc.) In my opinion, talking to them about it sets a precedent. |

'Thank you for your input... I know it's not the end all or anything like that, but I was well- pissed- when she told me both "cute" stories, as she called them. I mean, every so often I give my lo a "dab" of something, but I am talking a tiny tiny bit. I just imagined grandma holding the fudgecicle as my lo sucked on it, and sucked on it, and sucked on it- imagined all the artificial crap entering her pure little healthy body. It made me soooo mad! I will tell her the next time she babysits, that she isn't to give my lo a sampler platter of whatever she is having. And, not to mention that it makes me not even want her to babysit the next time. I have other options! She loves to do it, because she really enjoys the time with my lo, who is her entire world. It is his mother- I already gave my mom the talking to about things like that because she did them right in front of me. I asked her if she gave me things when I was a baby and she said "no of course not"! Interesting, isn't it?! |
