I was just wanting to hear from other moms about when your lo started crawling and what seems to be the norm. My dd is soon to be 9.5 months old and is not crawling yet. She sits very well on her own and plays like that for long periods of time. She goes from sitting to tummy but cannot go from tummy to sitting. She does the "skydiver" I like to call it where she puts her arms and legs up off the floor and then does the thrusting motion with her legs in the air. She can stand holding onto furniture, etc. If we stand her up there--she looked a few times to be trying to pull herself up but hasn't done it on her own yet. She can take steps walking while holding onto our hands and does a very good job at that yet still no crawling...not even an army crawl or scoot or anything! I did notice when she gets on her tummy she can get turned around in the opposite direction, so she can go in like a circle or half circle but that's it. Thanks for any input :)

Ds1 started crawling at 8.5 months, pulling up at 10.5 months, cruising at about 12.5 months and walking at 14 months old. Ds2 started crawling at 8 months, pulling up at 8.5 months and cruising at 9.5 months. He is 10.5 months old now and it looks like he may start standing independently soon. He stands holding onto things with one hand, and sometimes it looks like he hardly needs to hold. I am sure you know that every baby is different. Your dd is sitting which is great, and peds only start to worry if baby isn't moving by 12 months. By "moving" I mean any way in which she can get from point A to point B. Some babies crawl traditional style, some scoot on their bums, while others are walking. I would give your dd as much tummy as she can stand in a day. Is she pushing up with her hands when on her tummy? That is a good way to judge if she has good upper body strength. When she does the skydiver she is working her abs which is excellent. It takes a lot of strength and coordination to crawl and some babies take a bit longer than others (and some don't ever crawl at all). When both my boys were in the pre-crawling stage they would go from sitting into a crawling stance and rock back and forth on their knees. They did this for 2-4 weeks before they got the courage & coordination to start crawling.

Thanks DDT, yes she does push herself up with her arms when on her tummy and even pulls one knee in under her sometimes, but it's like as soon as she gets the knee in and I think she may go she flops back on tummy and sticks her arms straight out to the sides. It's like she can't coordinate the arms and legs. It's got to be frustrating! :) I'm not too worried about her as I can tell it won't be too long, I just feel like everyone around me in my family has babies who all are crawling earlier or did crawl earlier and they keep asking me about it. It's just annoying...

I have read that some babies won't crawl at all and will go straight to walking. My 10 month old nephew just started crawling. My dd learned by demonstration. Yes, we looked very silly, but she was able to learn that way.

My dd is 11 months and started to crawl only a few weeks back. Your post made me smile cause I asked the same questions about 6 weeks back...
