I don't understand? My dd has been sleeping 8+ hours straight for some time now and yet I feel like I'm dragging ALL the time. I could seriously fall asleep at anytime of the day. I still wake up several times in the middle of the night and of course since she moved to her room I get up and check on her. I think I eat pretty healthy for the most part...I try to nap during the day, but I can't nap when there's housework to be done...and to make matters worse I go back to work next week, which means getting up at 5am instead of 6:30, ugh..anyone else feeling like this? I wonder if there's anything I can do to get more energy.

I'm also absolutely exhausted. I think its the mental strain... even when I'm relaxing, I'm thinking about all the stuff going on and what I have to get done, etc. Ds still wakes up at 3am and 6-7am for feedings, and sometimes I'm so tired I can hardly walk in there to get him. I've crashed into my doorway more than a few times in the last 2 months!

Yes, yes yes I feel tired all the time I have had a horrible time getting good sleep since ds. Hes 17 months and honestly I dont know when it will get better. I wake over the slightest noise and am up 2-3 times a night. I have to retrain myself to sleep so I'm with ya- oh ya I'm junk at work!!

srigles - April 18th, 2007 4:46 PM

YES. DS is 5 1/2 months, and I'm constantly exhausted. I have no energy whatsoever. No idea why either, since he's sleeping through the night as well.

ugh, what to do...i'm going to have to go back to Large coffees when I go back to work...I hope the caffiene doesn't affect my dd, or else I'm screwed..I will be useless at work.

DB - have you tried Vitamin B complex? I take one every day - I think mine are called Super Vitamin B complex, helps with ppd, stress, cell regeneration, metabolism. Lactation consultant recommended I give it a try - I honestly think it is about the only way I survive working full-time and being up most of EVERY night.

I do not consume caffiene (except via chocolate). :-)

I feel tired all the time too. Even when I'm asleep I still have one ear listening for my son. Last week I played hookey and it was wonderful! I took my son to daycare and drove home and called in sick. I spent the day on the couch napping and watching tv. It was at this moment that I realized I haven't truly relaxed since my son was born. Regarding your return to work next week: You may find that you have more energy. I know I did. Staying home and watching a little one takes more energy, IMHO, than working full-time. Oh, my final advice: have you tried taking iron supplements? Sometimes we get anemic and don't realize it. Oftentimes when I have no energy I'll pop an iron pill for a few days and I'll find myself with tons of energy.

cut out caffine, drink plenty of wter (except right before bed), try getting more exercise. I know trying to find the time, and it may sound like it will make you even more tired, but it really does help to boost your energy. Also try talking to your doc. Turns out I have sleep apnea and while I am sleeping all night, I am not getting a restful sleep so I am still exhausted in the am....

I wasn't quite done. Have your bloodwork done at your docs. Anemia is an energy drainer.....a simple fix like more iron or an iron supliment could help if you are. Also lots of other things, diabetes, thyroid. Also there is the chance you are like every other mother and there is nothing medically wrong, you are jsut tired from all you do, but it helps to rule everythign else out.....

I had the same problem when my dd was about 4 months old. I went and got acupuncture and began taking women's tea pills plus extra B vitamins and felt 200% better within a few days. Now that my son is here, I am too busy to feel exhausted because i have two babies to chase. But I know my brain is suffering. I did bills yesterday and had to write each check about 3 times because I kept leaving out letters and numbers.

DB - April 18th, 2007 5:22 PM

I will try the Vitamin B and maybe an iron supplement as well. I know I can get anemic..I used to donate blood and got turned away once because my iron was too low...so that could have something to do with it. Lchan-I see what you're saying....I can literally sit at my desk and space out for a few minutes and no one will notice!! I did that in my first and last trimester too!! I'll have to run to CVS tonight or have dh stop on his way home from work. Thanks for all the advice.

soon2bemomof3 - April 18th, 2007 5:33 PM

I am also exhausted all the time but I do have to say that it doesn't get any easier when they're older as far as the sleeping all night goes. My dd is almost 10 years old and I still find myself getting up to check on her as well as my 2 1/2 year old and my 5 mo ds. PLUS I work full-time out of the house ( I say out of the house because I also work full-time IN THE HOUSE). Yes I agree that taking care of a child all day is harder than working full-time BUT MOST OF US MOTHERS WHO WORK FULL-TIME DO EVERYTHING AT HOME ALSO SO WE ARE PULLING DOUBLE DUTY TOO!!!!

DB - April 18th, 2007 5:36 PM

I agree. I tell my dh I "work" 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week, 365/year!! It's ABSOLUTELY a full time job!!

DB - April 18th, 2007 5:37 PM

By "work" I mean WORK!!! I'm not being sarcastic AT ALL!! You know what I mean.
