I have a 4 month old daughter and she used to spit up quite often. It will stop eventually. It happened twice she had spit up and there was a bit of neon green bile. I had read that if she continued to spit up a bit of bile throughout the day, then you should consult a doctor. As for the white stuff in the genital area, my daughter has it as well. I clean her but i don't rub that off completely cause i don't want to irritate her. |

The white stuff protects against infections. I was told not to clean it out of the folds. You may also notice a bit of blood in her diaper, caused by your hormones still being in her body. For the spitting up, call your doctor during office hours and tell him about the strange spit up, and about how much she's spitting up in general, or wait and talk to him about it at the 2 week appointment. If you're using formula and she continues to spit up a lot, you can ask the doctor about using different formula. I used one for a little while called enfamil ar, that had rice starch added to it, to thicken in baby's stomach. |

The white stuff is normal, it will go after a few weeks. Don't worry too much about spit up, if she's putting on weight. If you are breastfeeding,it's probably just colostrum that's making it yellow. My daughter sometimes seems to spit up an entire feed, but she's doing fine. |

My 1st spit up all the time. There was no problem with weight gain, so the Dr. said it was OK. I later found out it was caused by a dairy allergy. My 2nd hasn't had any problems--I don't eat dairy anymore. |

JM, I am new to the hole mom thing too. This is our first baby and we also have a girl. She was born on Dec 28th. I am bottle feeding but maybe try to burp her a little more often throughout the feeding to see if that helps with the spit up. As for seeing if she is getting enough that is one of the hard things about breast feeding. You could pump and put it in bottles for a while and see how long on average it takes her to eat it and then monitor it when you feed her from your breast. That might work. Good luck! I am sure she is getting enough or you would know that she needs more food! |

White stuff is normal; it'll go away on it's own. But, pay attention to smell...you know the symptoms of a yeast infection, I'm sure, so just pay attention to see if she has any of the symptoms. As far as her getting enough to eat, pay attention to her diapers - she should have 1 wet/dirty diaper per feeding session, if I'm remembering correctly. You could give her a bottle to watch ounces, but that's not generally recommended before 4 weeks or so, because it can cause latching problems. Babies who are given a bottle too soon sometimes end up refusing the breast, because it's easier to drink from a bottle. If the bright yellow mucous continues, I'd check with a doctor about the symptoms of reflux. But, it could just be colostrom as someone else suggested. |
