Hi ladies, this is my 2nd question in a day (sorry, but I'm a nerve rack these days!)! And sorry if my question is out of the subject, but I know you gals are good and knowledgeable!I gave birth 8 months ago and BF until around Nov. 25th. Got my first period on Dec. 31st. About 10 days later I had the egg white discharge of ovulation. So I took an ovulation test on Jan 10th (we are trying to conceive) and it came back a faint positive. Took another one the day after and it was negative. I assumed I had missed the positive test, but dh and I still got busy, since the test only indicates that ovulation will come 24-36 hours later. But in the last few days, I have had egg-white discharge again ( it's now day 20 of my cycle)! I took another ovulation test and it was faint positive. WTF? I am confused! Can anyone give me advice or has anyone been in that situation?

30% of women will ovulate twice in any given cycle. That doesn't mean that you will ovulate twice every month.

I think you can also have low levels of the luteinizing hormone that the test detects in your body at other times, it just spikes at ovulation. A faint positive is not really considered a "positive" on ovulations tests like it is for pregnancy tests. Normally it is not considered a positive for ovulation unless it is as dark or darker than the control line.

So I meant to say that you may not have ovulated at all yet or you did and missed catching it on a test...

Thanks. I think I may have missed it or it may be positive tomorrow. You are right, they are only positive or negative, not halfway. It's just that in the past, I have never gotten a faint line unless it was like the day before a real positive test.

Yeah, me too...I used them for a while a couple of years ago and I could never get a true positive and I knew from all of the other signs I was ovulating (I also temped and checked CM) so I figured that maybe I didn't have a big LH surge or something. You could probably tell more by temping and checking cervical mucous although it is a pain in the ass...

You're right! A few years back when we were ttc #1 I tried quite a few brands. The first fertility clinic I went to told me to call them when I got a positive OPK so they would schedule an IUI... you have no idea how frustrating this was since some months I would not get a positive results, but I knew I still ovulated!!! So I would miss my window and was unable to have IUIs... THen I switched clinic and the second clinic was much more high tech; they told me that they didn't think the tests were accurate for all women so they didn't take any chances and did u/s for everyone! Also, it's weird cause before pregnancy, I maybe had only once in my life egg-white discharge prior to ovulation. Now, after being done with BFing, I saw it a few weeks later so took an OPK and had a positive sign. That's why I'm so confused to have it seen twice in a month. I'll try another test this am just to see. I now do the strip tests as they are a lot cheaper. But I guess we'll be back at the fertility clinic this summer anyway.
