Colleen - how were the shots? I'm sure you little one was a trooper. How are you? jess - I'm so sorry that you are going through a hard time with your marriage. Hang in there. And, maybe meds. would help. I've been on them before and they did help me through a rough time. jeni - I'm glad you came over here. 6 weeks is way too short. I think 3 months is too short too...I have to go back in a week and a half...I'm absolutely dreading it. It'll be a huge adjustment, and I don't think I'll be able to keep up pumping enought to feed him. I'm ok with giving him more formula...I just like breastfeeding too. And, he's getting to be so much fun...smiling, cooing, etc. No fair! Things are going well with us. We figured out a sleeping arrangement that seems to be working too. He sleeps in the crib until he wakes up at 2:00ish, and then he's in the co-sleeper thing we bought for the bed the rest of teh night. He'll sleep that way. How is everyone doing???

Tara - I didn't see your post before posting mine. We should all move to Canada - I agree! Sorry things are rough financially. My job is cutting back and we all have to take 2 weeks unaid off every year now..arg. how old is your lo? 16 lbs!! Wow! My lo is little - in the 10th percentile, but he's 10.5 weeks and only 9 something now. He rolled over for the first time today (during tummy time - from front to back)! He coos and smiles, and he has really good head control. He's amazing! Good question - what are your los doing???

Hello! We had a terrible 1st shots experience! The doctor that did her exam had really cold hands and tried not to touch her too much, then at the end of the exam, she picked my dd up- then poor dd started screaming like I've never heard her scream before. She was so upset, and I wanted to punch the damn doctor! So, during the screaming, the nurse came in with the shots, she did them quickly though it only prolonged poor dd's screaming. I held back tears, my bf held back tears... we left as quickly as we could.
at 3 1/2 months, my dd is turning onto her side easily, has turned onto her belly a couple of times. She can reach to and hold toys. She started exploring my face with her hands. Last night she really discovered her vocal chords and sqealed A TON, most of the evening, it was very cute, and also very loud! ; ) She has started laughing more.
We are still working on the sleep thing. She sleeps a total of 10-13 hours in a 24 hour period- which isn't enough sleep. Her "long sleep" lasts about 5-6 hours. The norm is about 9-12 hours long sleep plus two 2-3 hour naps. I can tell that she is tired alot, as am I! She falls asleep for the night at around 1am. I then fall asleep around 2-2:30am if I'm lucky. I do not have a job to go back to (don't know if I'm lucky, or un-lucky...) If I did, I don't know how I'd even be able to function on this schedule.

Hey girls, happy Friday! I have been super busy at work lately which I can't complain about, I'm just glad I still have a job. My dsl is down at home so I can only get in at work.
Jeni- welcome and congrats on your lo, of course you can join. I was considering getting a tubal, does insurance cover it? Do you know how long the recovery is? Please tell me anything you know about it. Dh and I have 2 now and are done (unless we hit the lottery).

Tara- wow, 10 hours straight?! Thats phenomenal! Can you go back to work earlier if you need the money? Did your lo get Rotavirus from the vaccine? I hope your all feeling better now.

Kimmer- I hope your work transition goes smooth for you. It was hard for me. When I had my first, I gave her formula during the day and bf at night and mornings. It's just very hard to keep up. Do you work full time and where will your lo be staying while you work? It's rough when they still get up at night for feedings when you are working, I hope your little guy starts going through the night soon.

Micsmms- I love the pic! Your lo is absolutely beautiful! I'm sorry to hear about your vaccine experience. It is so traumatic. Did she get a fever? How many shots did she get? Are you considering finding a new pedi?

Luke is now 13.4 lbs (born at 4 lbs 6 oz)he is 4 1/2 months now (7 weeks preemie) and takes 5-6 oz every 3 hours (sometimes 2-2.5!) He is an absolute angel, hardly cries and sleeps pretty well. He gets tired around 7pm, then I wake him between 9-10 pm to feed. He will usually go until around 5-6 am. He smiles and has the cutest laugh I have ever heard. He is grabbing and holding toys and loves his big sister Ashley (2 yo). He babbles and squeels when he gets in the mood.
He got 2 shots on Wednesday (DTaP and Pneumococcal). I am doing an adjusted schedule with him b/c I have serious concerns about the amount and frequency of the suggested schedule. I have done way too much research on the subject over the last 3 years and feel that the increase of three-fold in the last 20 years is more driven by $$$ than the best interests of children. There have been too many links with vaccines to SIDS, auto-immune diseases and neurological issues. The amount of aluminum contained in the vaccines (as an adjuvant) far exceeds the level considered to be safe. Anyway, that's my rant for now.
I am still on the meds for anxiety and I think they are working, my doc upped the mg just a tiny bit so I will try that next month and hope it just gets better. I have had alot of migraines lately and am hoping they get better.

Hi ladies. Were doing good. Aj does have some constipation issures. His doctor said to give him an ounce of water a day but he has decided that he doesn't like it and won't drink it. Little stinker. The doctor said to try half baby apple juice and half water if the water doesn't work so i'm having my hubby some up tonight. Aj is 12 weeks as of yesterday. He is smiling,Cooing,he doesn't really laugh yet. My stupid period is now a week late. I took a test and it's negative. So i'm pretty sure I'm not preggo. Aj is still sleeping all night. Well I have to go get some laundy done. Hope everyone's doing good.

austynsmommy- such a cute pic! My doc recommended the prune juice w/ half water (for my 1st lo) and it really did the trick, try it if the apple doesn't work. That's wonderful that he is sleeping the night. My period is kinda screwy too. We are only using condoms now b/c my blood pressure is still a bit high. What is everyone else using for b/c?

Were just using condoms. I can never rember to take a pill, I get sick on the patch and I was on the depo and gained 20 pounds and it took me a year to get pregnant after getting off of it. I was going to get the iud but my insurance doesn't cover it so I would have to pay $600 out right and we don't have to much spare money. Our rent went from $800 dollars a month to $900 dollars. I wish the economy would get better.

TaraO My first 2 are 5 years apart 2,3 are 3and a half years apart and 3,4 are 19 months apart,I think its easier at 3 years apart but thats just me lol,how is everyone today?

clindholm the recovery is 4 to 6 weeks and my insurance covers it,but I was told you start feeling like yourself sooner than that.

Where is everyone?? Hello?? I hear an echo in here, lol.
Jeni- Thanks for the info. I guess that means I will have to be out of work to have this procedure done? That presents a problem. I only get 60% pay for short term disability and that does not kick in til I have been out for 2 weeks :(
How is everyone and their lo's doing?

can someone help me?! so my son was born on december 2 and i always freak out when he starts to cry i will comfort him when he crys and everyone keeps telling me to not do it every single time cause he will not be able to confort himself but i just feel like a bad mom when he cries and i dont do anything within a minute he is in my arms! i cant help it :( can anyone tell me how to do this better i dont want to be a bad mom i will do ANYTHING for my son i just dont know what to do!! please help!! arg :{

Colleen, I have scheduled my next 4 appointments, assuring that I do not get that "cold handed" doctor (grrr). There are 2 other pediatricians in the group, and I like the others so far, I never liked the cold handed one... and that was the last draw!
She got a bit of a fever- on and off for a day and 1/2. She received the 2nd dose of Hep b, Rota, DTaP, Hib. I think she also got PCV, but have to double check. She had 3 actual shots and 1 liquid that she had to drink.
Anyone challenging immunizations? I am wary of them, and wish I knew more about the subject, in general. I wish they would not need so many at such a young age.

Birth control- i'm BF-ing so they put me on the mini-pill (progesterone, only). I'm wondering what affects the hormones of BFing and the mini pill are having on me. I feel very short fused, and a bit depressed in general (then I look at my lo and feel better ; ).... ) I have no libido whatsoever!

Jusdee, Our lo's are almost exactly the same age! My dd was born Dec. 1st!
I understand about feeling like a bad mommy if you don't attend to your crying baby... I think that it is up to the mother to decide how to handle it. I have also heard (and been told) that you shouldn't always go to them when they cry, but I personally feel that it is absolutely OK - and good- to go to them.

I hope that you defend yourself, or ignore those whom tell you to do differently than what you feel is right! Remind them that it is in fact, your child! You are the mommy!

I will admit, whenever my lo cries, I try to make the crying stop, and make her happy. I may not run full speed to her room the moment I hear her crying from waking from a nap- however, I stop what I'm doing as quickly as possible and go right to her. Usually just hearing my voice call out to her once I enter her room makes her stop crying, and start laughing. I do not believe that you can spoil a child for their 1st year. Especially not while they are newborns, or new babies... Only a few months ago when they were in the womb, any need they had was met at every moment. Their world was serene, and calm. They were constantly warm, held, nutured, comfortable, and fed... I agree with Dr. Karp's methods of the "4th Trimester", and how to create that for your child. He (and many others) also say that consoling/comforting a crying baby makes them more confident and able to self comfort because of that confidence. Your baby isn't throwing a fit and crying "just because". There is something that they need and cannot do themselves just yet. (Hunger, scared, lonley, pain, discomfort, tired, etc.) You should read "The happiest baby on the block" and also- "the happiest Toddler on the block" by him. It sounds like you would like what he teaches.

thanks micsmms3!! you put my mind at ease a bit i needed that!! well see he is not a fussy baby at all so when he crys its just heartbreaking to here! so thats why im like always on the edge haha

Hi jusdee and welcome! I completely agree with micsmms regarding the crying. From what I have read, babies cannot be spoiled until at least 6 months old. Going to them when they are crying as soon as you are able instills trust that you will be there for them (proven by micsmms lo calming upon hearing her voice). Keep in mind that crying is also their only known way of communicating at this early stage. Also sometimes they cry and there is nothing you can do. They are fed, dry, comfortable and sometimes they still cry. My first dd was a colic baby so that was a hard lesson learned. Once they are older the theory is to try to allow them to fuss a bit so that they learn to self soothe and amuse themselves without constant interaction. Every mom has to do what they are comfortable with. Do not let anyone tell you how to raise your baby, you are MOM!

Micsmms- I will have to check out those books, they sound great!I'm glad your lo made it through her shots relatively well. Did you give Tylenol prior to her appt? I did that for Luke.
I also have been challenging the shots from day 1. My 2 yo has only had a few to date. I did the DTaP and Hib (no Hep at all) and have not gotten the MMR yet. Luke (now almost 5 months bit 7 weeks preemie) has had DTaP and Hib as well. He also had the Synagis shot for RSV which is a little different from traditional shots. The antiboties are injected into them so the body does not have to fight it off. He got this shot (monthly) b/c he was high risk being so early and he needed some oxygen for a few days after birth.
I have SERIOUS issues with the vaccines (and I work at a Health Dept!). The amount of vaccines has more than tripled in the last 20 years and there is some seriously questionable neurotoxins in them (formaldahyde, aluminum, etc). I do not completely trust the CDC b/c if you follow the money trail from the Vaccine Manufacturers (not to mention the studies) there is some really seriouss conflicts of interest. Doctors where I live are not to receptive to changing the recommended schedule but contrary to what they will have you believe, it is your choice. Look up the laws in your state, most have some exemptions. Here in CT, we only have medical and religious (no philosophical). Since your lo is not in daycare & being bf, she is certainly low risk for these diseases. Most have been eradicated and are NOT deadly (again, contrary to the data put out by the vaccine mfg and CDC). Anyway, I could go on and on. Do as much research as you can and keep in mind the source and what their best interests are. If you have any questions, I can try to help or point you in the right direction.

I was just curious to know how it works once your child is school-aged. Do they have to have all their shots before they start school? Here in Canada, kids won't be admitted to a daycare centre or school if all their shots aren't up-to-date. Is it the same for you guys?

There are specific exemptions for each state here in the US. Some states are horrible and only have medical exemptions. These exemptions apply to both daycare as well as public schools. My sister has 2 children, the 12 year old had a few shots very early on but they were discontinued and the 8 year old has never had a shot. They both attend public schools. Her pedi has marked off in their charts the religious exemption. When she enrolls them each year, she just has the doctor sign off on the form that would normally have the immunizations filled out. She has never had a problem.

I just don't understand how the government can force medications upon people. Don't we have the right to determine what is injected into our and our childrens bodies?
