First Sippie Cups!

My two year old son used the nuby cups and for some reason they leaked all the time. I really liked that they were cheap though. One day I just got tired of them leaking so I through them all away and bought the hard top ones. He had a hard time figuring out how to drink from the hard tops. I did like the nuby when he was younger. |

I just bought my almost 7 month old dd a set of two sippy cups from Playtex. They are fat and short with two handles and a silicone covered spout. It is still hard though. It has the no leak stopper that you can remove to make it flow like a normal cup too which is nice. Only problem is my daughter hates it! I tried it without the stopper and she gagged all over the place and then wouldn't let me near her with it and then when I put it in she doesn't want to suck out of it and gets tired of it too quickly. Maybe it is not time....I should have put breastmilk in it at first probably b /c I did water in it and she hated it. I guess I should just keep trying? |

we had a couple to ( dd lost them somewhere, err). You are right, for the price they are, they sure do a great job! Some of the ones with the little straws (not all)work well as well. Playtex insulator is pretty good to.Nuby is probably the best i've tried. stef, i think all babies kind of gag( unless you meant vomit,im confused as to why she'd do that from just water) at first since the flow is more then what they are used to. Was the age on the box 6 months plus or 12? that could be why to. |

Yep, it was 6+ months. I'll just have to keep trying. The flow I think is what made her gag and the funny faces were just because she didn't like the water. I know this is totally gross, but I finally tasted a bit of breastmilk on my finger the other day and it is sooooo sweet! I didn't realize it was that sweet. |

I am SO glad we bought this when we did. GRIM caught our cold and it's turned into acute bronchiolitis (apparently, this is different from bronchitis). She's throwing up every time she drinks formula, so we had to switch her to JUST juice, water, and pedialyte. The problem is, she was STILL throwing up and when we held the bottle to her mouth, she'd fight and gag. We're still using the slowest drip nipples because she likes them, so it isn't that the flow is too fast. It seems while she's sick, she's being suffocated when she's having her bottle. Her nose is too full for her to breathe and what little air she's getting around the infection in her lungs can't get through when she has a bottle in her mouth. Her grandma came by this morning before the doctor's appointment with some Pedialyte and suggested we get her a sippy cup if she's having problems with the bottle. I ran and got the Nuby, and put some in it. GRIM collapsed against her grandma while she was drinking from it and passed out, exhausted but finally happy. Before, she played with it and chewed on it, letting the water pour right back out of her mouth. Now, we're giving her all her fluids in it and she's having a much easier time drinking from it than her bottles. I think it's because she chooses when to let some fluid through and otherwise it stays sealed, doesn't even drip, so she can pant a few breaths, drink, pant a few breaths, etc. |

My dd also still uses the slow flow nipples because I used the fast flow recently and she never seemed to get used to them. I hated having to give her a sip from a bottle and then take it away and give it back just so she wouldn't gag and sputter all over the place. She normally is breastfed so I think a slow flow nipple mimics bf'ing better bc they have to suck so hard. She was also sick lately and would cry when trying to bf because she couldn't breathe through her nose, poor baby :( I tried the sippy though with pedialyte and she wouldn't drink from it. I'm going to get the Nuby and see how it goes! |

aw, i feel so bad for your babies, that sounds like they are really sick! lol at stef, i've done the same thing to most of what dd eats, so don't feel bad. I probably wouldn't admit it to anybody though ( besides on the computer).I also tried the breastmilk, i am just too curious. |
