Hi Ladies, I'm 38 weeks 2 days and at my appointment last week the doc heard an irregular heartbeat, every once in a while baby would skip a beat. She wasn't concerned at all and said that it is quiet common and once baby is born it usually settles down within the first month. She did a non-stress test and it went well but again every once in a while, the heartbeat was irregular. She still wasn't concerned but i was freaking out so she said to ease my mind she will get me an ultrasound, so i'm going tomorrow. She seems so unconcerned and I'm sure everything is fine. There has been no complications/ problems with my pregnancy until we heard this at 37 weeks. I have a healthy almoast 11 month old. Did any of you ladies have this problem when pregnant ? If so did baby turn out ok or were there problems? Any adivce will help. Thank you very much and I know this is an infant care forum, I do have an infant and another one on the way, just wanted to hear any experiences from new moms. Thank you.

Hi Tanya. I understand why you would be concerned...any mummy would be. My son was born with a major heart defect which required surgery at 3 weeks old. It was diagnosed at my 20 week scan where they check the anatomy of the heart. Despite his problems, we never heard an irregular heart beat. If any heart problems involved hearing an irregular heart beat, my son would have had one! I am sure if your dr thought something was wrong, she would have referred you to a cardiologist immediately (it probably would have been heard before also). Let us know how your ultrasound goes....I'm sure your baby will be perfectly fine. Good luck :)

BaileysMummy, thank you so much for your post. It really makes me feel better. I have my u/s today, we'll see how it goes. In any case I won't get the results today, it will have to be sent to my doc and I'm seeing her on Thurs for my regular check-up. DH is not worried, he is just excited that we get to re-confirm the sex of the baby. He is sure all is well, since he saw how unconcerned the doc was. How old is your son now? How is he doing? He must be a strong little man to go through surgery at 3 weeks.

I had my ultrasound in the hospital today, it took forever to get in. My results were a perfect score, my doc was there. There was still an irregular heartbeat but it seemed to happen when baby was moving. So they are saying that when the baby is born they will mention it to the pediatrition, but it doesn't sound serious. If the ultrasound didn't come up with good results (mine were 8 out of 8) then they would have send me for a cardioechogram, so i'm guessing all is well and its nothing serious. I was researching and they said for most babies who have irregular heartbeat, it becomes normal within the first month. Nothing serious. Oh yeah, another good thing with the ultrasound was that we managed to re-confrim that it is a boy. We got to see his 'jewels' as dh calls is. I feel a little less relieved now.
