Robyn, that is lovely. So ladies we are going to visit hubbies family for 2 weeks. It's a long 2 flights, which I'm not looking forward to but i'm sure we'll survive. Ethan (like a lot of babies I guess) has such extreme opposite behaviors. Yesterday he was fussy all day, only happy in my arms. Then in the evening after a bath out of sheer exhaustion I put him down in his cradle with the mobile on, I didn't really believe he would fall asleep by himself but he did, lucky me. Then he slept so great. We did a sleep feed at 10, then he woke up at 4 for another feeding and then only woke up at 8, I was amazed. Then this morning he took an almost three hour nap, my gosh, he keeps me guessing. I hope you are allwell, I'll miss hearing from you in the next two weeks, so I'll be looking for all the latest when I get back. To all of you and all the babies, take care! |

Well I guess the sore feeling is normal then. That's the main thing I was worried about. It doesn't look bruised or anything, it just feels as though it is. I guess that's what you get for having abdominal surgery, huh? Claire went to the Urologist and has her tests scheduled for Wednesday. She'll get a sonogram of her kidneys, and then she'll go in to get her bladder filled with radioactive liquid and then she'll get an X-ray to see if it backs up from her bladder into her kidneys. The urologist asked if she had been constipated, so I let him know she had been for the past week, so he put her on once-a-day antibiotics since constipation is a sign of a UTI, and the very next morning she was back to pooping like nothing ever happened. So either the antibiotics worked or it was a coincidence. Either way I'm glad the constipation is over and I'll be glad to get these tests done to see what we're dealing with. Astra, have fun visiting! I know what you mean about these babies keeping us guessing. Claire has not been sleeping well AT ALL, and I was getting so frustrated, then last night she slept like an angel. She slept in her basinette from 8:30-12:30, woke up to nurse a few minutes, went back to sleep until 4:30, then nursed a few minutes, went back to sleep until 7:45 this morning. I feel so rested I don't know what to do with myself. :) |

Girls, so glad to hear my baby is not the only one who's schedule gets crazy sometime. Night before last Ford was up fussy every 2 hours. Then last night, he slept in his playpen from 8-2 without making a peep. I gave him a bottle, put him in bed with us & he slept until almost 6am. go figure. I keep forgetting to tell you'll that our family photos we had made when Ford was 3 months old are available to view at weedonphoto dot com, the password is fitzgerald. Let me know what you think. I think they turned out so well and am having trouble deciding which ones to order! |

Hey all need to catch up on whats going on. Justin just had his 6m vaccines. He laughed thru the 1st two injections, the 3rd one he was like WTF started to whimper the 4th one he cryed. But my Dh said in like 10 seconds he was laughing again. When i walked in the room he was laughing so i believe him (: So my pedi goes "hes no freakshow big but hes big" LOL. Hes 22 lbs and almost 29 inches they say hes the size of a 10 month old. Hes got the appetite to proove it. We go thru 5 Stage 2 jars a day we are now doing breakfast, lunch and dinner and bottles in between. Hes waking between 1 and 2 times a night. But hes starting to sleep in later anywhere from 730 - 800 am going to bed at 7pm. I need to read up on you all. Be back in a few. |

Sarah, it's not a radioactive dye that they will be giving Claire. I'm an x-ray tech and I do these everyday. It's called a VCUG (voiding cystourethrogram) and it checks for reflux from the bladder to the kidneys. The dye is just a radiopaque dye (meaning it will show up on the x-rays). If your doctor didn't go into detail about it, let me know if you have any questions because if you are unprepared going into it it can be quite traumatic on you and Claire. But it is necessary to determine if there is a problem--I know, it sucks huh?? Anyways, just thought I'd tell you I can give you some answers if you need them. Good luck!! |

Oh wow Brandy, those photos are breathtaking. I just love them! I don't know how you decide. Val, thanks for the info. Her doctor treated me like I was a 2 year old when he explained things, so I didn't know a whole lot about the procedure when I wrote about it. But I've read up on it. Doesn't sound too bad. She's had a catheter before and didn't really notice it so I think it'll be fine. I'm not looking forward to it but it's certainly less traumatic than a lot of things we've already been through! I quit giving her the antibiotics because they were giving her terrible diarrhea. I figured a few more days without them won't hurt until we see what's going on, and I'll let her Dr. know about the reaction to the antibiotics. Robyn, sounds like a hefty boy on your hands! Claire is loving real food and hating baby food. She loves eating grains of rice. She actually chews it with her gums, it is so cute! Anything I eat, she wants to sample so she's had an interesting taste of things. Yesterday it was a pickle. She loved it! So funny. |

Hi, everyone. We got back from Seattle yesterday. I was nervous about a 6 hour plane ride with Jack, but he did great! He loved all the people and interesting sights at the airport and charmed everyone on the plane with his smile. He got his first cold right before we left - 104 fever, diarreah and congestion, poor lil' man. He was so miserable; I held him all day and was so worried. His fever broke just in time for the trip. He's still a little stuffed up, though. Robyn: I like the quote at the beginning; it's so true. Sarah: 'Glad to hear Claire's liking solids so much. We're going to start rice cereal sometime this week, probably. Jack's gotten REALLY interested in my food, so I think he's ready. I hope Claire's test goes well today and you get some useful info from it. Theses kiddos sure do keep you guessing, don't they? At 6 months, Jack still doesn't have much of a nap schedule - does it a little differently every day, but at least we're down to 3 long naps most days instead of 4 short ones. He does go to bed between 7 & 8 every night and sleeps til 6AM-ish, so I really can't complain! - April |

Glad to hear your trip went smoothly, April! I don't envy you. Claire's tests went really well yesterday. The techs doing the tests all said everything looked normal. So her kidney sonogram was fine and her VCUG looked great at first glance. The guy said that he'd have to look closer on a high resolution monitor to be 100% sure but as of the time we left he said it looked great. I called the nurse and I am waiting on a call back for the final results. I am so relieved. A little boy had the same test done before Claire and he cried from the time the catheter went in until the time they took it out at the end of the test (his took over an hour because he kept peeing out the fluid somehow and then couldn't pee afterwards). Claire was able to get it in one round of filling the bladder (impressed the tech) and she did really well and didn't cry until the very end because she was tired and hungry. My little trooper! |

Just a little note from our family vacation...Sarah I'm so happy everything went well with little Claire. I'm so impressed she's trying real food already! |

Well, we tried rice cereal for the first time yesterday. I'm not sure if any of it got into Jack, but we made a fabulous mess in the process. I don't think he was very hungry, so he wasn't really interested. He got irritated about it after a while, so I quit. They say to feed the baby after the bottle, and I know that's because you don't want them to be starving the first time they have to figure out a spoon - makes sense. But if they're not hungry, where's the motivation to eat at all? I think I may try again today by giving him just a little of the bottle first, then cereal before he's all the way full. - April |

Hi mommies! Sorry I've MIA for so long. I just have been so very busy with work and being a mom. Hannah is now 6 months and just started crawling everywhere, sitting up by herself, and clapping her hands all within two days 3 milestones! She also has teeth! 2 on the bottom now and is chowing down size 2 baby foods. I haven't weighed her in a while but I'm guessing 17lbs-18. I'm just waiting on her first word! I absolutely love all the baby pics, our babies are so darn cute! I will send out some recent Hannah pics in a little bit. I'm so happy to see that we are all still together. Man where did time go we have breezed though a half year with our babies already! I miss the newborn days, I held my friends 3 day newborn for 2 hours and missed Hannah being that young. Gotta get back to being mommy again, miss u all and I'll do my best to KIT more often. Erica |

I have a question for those of you already doing solid food: any tips? I've tried feeding Jack rice cereal and bananas (separately, of course) on several occasions. He doesn't seem that into it. He'll let me slip the food into his mouth, and I think he swallows some of it, but he makes this face like it tastes terrible. Or maybe it's the texture he objects to? I don't know if I should keep trying b/c he just needs to get used to it, or if he's not ready yet and I should wait a while before trying again. He's 6 months as of Aug. 27th. - April |

Well Claire still won't eat rice cereal. She just plain doesn't like it unless I make it with watermelon juice because she loves to chew on watermelon. She hates bananas, too. I just started giving her tidbits of whatever I was eating and that's still what she wants. I would try some plain mashed potato and see if he likes that. They also make net things now that you put food into the net, and a handle attaches to it, so that way Jack can get the flavor without having to worry about swallowing anything and that can help introduce him to food. Otherwise I just wouldn't worry about it, just keep introducing it to him and see if you get a better reaction. It takes a little time for them to learn how to swallow and all that. |

Well where is everybody lately? Claire has started scooting on her belly. Looks like she'll be crawling soon. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing... she'll be mobile in no time. Anyway that's all the exciting news that I have. Hope everybody is doing great! |

Sarah: Thanks for the tips. Mashed potatoes sounds like a good idea - fairly bland. Maybe he'd like 'em. I tried the baby bananas I've been giving him today, and I didn't much like them either - too sweet. So Miss Claire's getting mobile - wow! Jack tries to move on his belly and gets so frustrated when he can't. We had our 6 month appt today - just 2 booster shots. He did well - cried a little but was fine afterwards. He weighs 17 lbs, 4 oz. He's 50th percentile for everything - the perfectly average baby! - April |

Hey girls, Sarah, Ford is also trying like heck to crawl. He can scoot on his belly to get something he wants but doesn't quite have the crawling motion down. I give him a week or two. April, try some sweet potatoes with Jack. That was the first thing I gave Ford (besides rice cereal) and he loved them. He still does as a matter of fact. We are about to graduate to 2nd foods as I think he's ready. We also had our 6 month checkup yesterday. Ford didn't cry as hard with the shots but woke up today and both legs had red, hard knots where they did the injections. I called the Dr & they said that can happen, just watch it over the next few days. He was fine all day until about 5:30pm when he got really fussy. He fell asleep at about 6pm & looks like he's down for the night. I tried to put him in the play pen (where he's been sleeping lately) but he wouldn't have any part of it. He's in our bed. Oh well, poor little guy deserves a little pampering after a tough day! Ford was 25.5in and 17lb 7 oz. Like Jack, also a perfectly average baby. Take care everyone and hope you all have a great rest of the week. |
