(Check other post for Mothers Breastfeeding 9month olds). So I put Gretchen on the nipple that hurts the worst just now because I noticed what looked like a blockage, and I had a warm compress on it and then stuck her on the boob. Well, the scab thing turned white and a bit of it came off and left a really raw red spot that hurts like heck!!! Should I try to get teh rest of the scabby thing off or leave it? It hurts to touch it. :(

I think I'd leave it alone to heal. I wonder about not nursing on that side as often to give it a rest? How often is Gretchen nursing these days? Yikes, hope it gets better REALLY soon

Gretchen wants to be nursing nonstop. ANd she's not eatting as much solid foods right now either. I ususally wait until after she's eatten all she's gonna eat then stick her on the boob, so I'm starting to wonder if the food/saliva in her mouth is irritating my nipple? At first I thought it could be thrush, Gretchen just got over a yeast rash on her booty. But her mouth looks clear and the only thing bothering her is her teeth. I just wish it didn't hurt so bad. They both hurt, just the right is worse and looks worse too. :( ....BTW, THanks, ssmith. :)

OMG, I think I'd go crazy if Cate wanted to nurse non stop. Why is she nursing so often? Geez. I wonder about introducing a sippy to try off set the constant nursing ~~ at least to let yourself heal. At 9 months, she isn't totally dependent on breastmilk as her sole source of nourishment anymore. Hmmm. Hey, it's worth a shot....and anything to give your poor nipples a much needed break for a bit!!

Yeah, we've been working on the sippy cup, but she just likes to play with it. She'll get a couple drops and that's it. She's always been a bit of a boob girl, and I wonder if it's because she's teething she wants that comfort? That's the only thing I can think of.

Yes, I have some advise. Get some yeast medicine. It sounds likely that's your problem, and if it's not putting the medicine on your nipples won't hurt a thing. Also, LEAVE THE SCAB ON as long as you can. I once took care of a mom with a new baby, and I'll never forget her advise. She (with the last baby years before) had a problem like yours, and she told me that she had pulled the scab off. Well, most trully a small piece of her nipple came off. Now, when nursing this next baby, the milk just runs out of that side, and it looks as though a small chip is gone from the nipple. Her new baby only wanted the easy side now, since she didn't even have to suck; and wanted to ignore the other side. Anyways, when she told me "Here's some advise for you: never pick a scab off your nipple!" I cringed and told her I would never forget. Ouch! Get better soon. oh, do you think pumping that side would be better for now?

OW OW OW!! I had the sore cracked nipple thing a couple days ago and it eventually just toughened up...I hope yours heals soon. You poor thing I definitely commend you for continuing breastfeeding! That shows some serious commitment! :)
