My ds2 is 8.5 months old and started crawling 1.5 weeks ago. We have part laminate/part carpet in our house. He stays mostly on the carpet and has only today ventured onto the laminate, but he ended up wimpering and crying after a little while because of the pain from crawling on the hard floor. Even when only on the carpet by his bath time his knees are red, bruised with slight rug burn on them. He wears long pants every day so I don't know why this is happening. I never experienced this with ds1 but that may be because ds1's skin tone is much darker than ds2's. I am just guessing though...Is/has anyone experiencing/ed this? I feel really bad for him. Thanks!

Poor baby! We have hardwoods throughout most of our downstairs and never had a problem with our first child. Usually babies have enough fat on their knees to pad, sounds like your son is either skinnier than some or sensitive to the pressure of his own weight on the hard floor. I do know that you can get knee pads for them that are specifically for crawling on hard surfaces. Do a search.

After I wrote my post I thought about ds2's legs and realized his legs are pretty skinny with bony knees. He is a heffalump with weight (21lbs) but has long, long legs so all the fat is dispersed. I have looked online for some knee pads and read lots of reviews. The best I could find are made by "Silikids"....they seem to be the only ones that don't fall off or slide about. I get them within a week so I hope they help him. He tries so hard on the laminate but you can see by his face that every step is very painful. He will look at me whimpering the entire time...it's so sad! Thanks mjvdec01!

My DD got the same thing on her knees constantly from crawling on the carpet and the hardwood floors in her bedroom. And yes long pants didn't do anything to prevent it. I just put down a mat for her when she's on the wood floors, and a soft blanket when she's on carpet. I'll constantly have to keep putting her back on them because she crawls off, but she no longer has any problems.

I wish I could just put him on a blanket but he is crawling so much it would be impossible. He does laps around the living room. Either these pads I've ordered will help, or he will hate them and we will both just have to deal with the hard floor...pain and all. Maybe he will just get used to it.

i'm not sure if it would help but you could try putting a extra pair of pants on him.
