Scotchgaurd On Carseats?

Does anybody know if it is safe to apply scotchgaurd to carseats? Do you think that there would be any irritation to baby's skin from it?

I would think it would be fine. People put it on their couches and recliners and carpets, and they all come in contact with the baby as much as a carseat would.

I dont think I would do it, it smells too bad, and it makes the fabric stiff. Ive done my couches before and honestly it just attacts the grime.
