Does anyone have any suggestions to get my son to stop spitting out his cereal, when I give it too him? He seems to like it and opens his mouth for me, but then he smiles and purses his lips and spits it out. I have tried leaving the spoon in a wee longer to have him swallow. And I have tried to put a bit more on the spoon so that he will swallow right away. Should I just make the cereal a bit thicker? Would that stop him though? Any suggestions?

If you have not already maybe mix it with some fruit.....or my ds went thru a stage when he started to teeth he would spit his food out like doing the rasberries so that could be it too. I just told him no very firmly when he did this and if he kept it up I would stop feeding him a few times of doing that and he stopped but really I have noticed the spitting when he is cutting a new tooth!!

My dd did this too around 6-8 mos. She still does on occasion, but is just playing. I am sure it is a phase, b/c dd quit pretty much on her own. I did the same as rl and told her "No" and then quit feeding her if she kept it up.

I told him no though, not loud at all, just looked at him and said no joel and he startles easy and looked at me and cried. ah poor thing broke my heart.:(. Maybe I will add some bananas to it and see if that helps. I know that he is teething too. Thanks ladies

Is he just starting to eat solids? If so maybe he still has the tongue reflux thing. Sorry I don't remember how old your lo is.
